Heads up to the PS3 guys, if you go in and pre-order God of War 3 at Gamestop you'll get a voucher for a new skin and the demo that was played at E3 this year.

I downloaded it last night and it's around 2.7 gigs and I've read that it's about 20 minutes long. Haven't had a chance to play it yet, just a heads up for you guys. I'll post up later tonight after running through it.

Zeus! YOU'RE SON HAS RETURNED. I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF OLYMPUS!

What's the voucher? A code, a la XBOX Live?

Please update this thread with some first impressions! And some details, such as whether the demo can be displayed in 1080p.

1 word to describe it...

Re-goddamn-diculous.

It's fucking fantastic.

Gameplay, is as always in a GoW game..on point. From running the Blades of Chaos into an harpie then ripping it in half as you jump to the next or ripping out a cyclop's eye, the standard GoW formula is ever-present and excellent. The last section is pretty amazing as well. I'm not going to ruin the surprise until a few more play it, though. :) Throughout the entire demo I was on the edge of my seat, oblivious to my surroundings...I missed a call that I never heard. Hahaha. Also, they re-did the quick time event button display to correspond to the controller more. An example, you are fighting a 2 headed beast with a serpent for a tail...you enter the QTE, instead of flashing X in the middle of the screen, it's at the bottom of the screen and lights up the entire bottom of the screen, for square it does the same thing except to the left, and the same for triangle and O. I thought that was a good addition.

Graphics. Oh my lord, the graphics. I would say they're definately on par with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves or even better. The lighting effects are insane, in one section you're walking through a secret cavern and you're attacked. The only light is from the blades of chaos as you swing them around attempting to rip your enemies in half. Also, there is one part where you have to open a huge door with large statues next to it...looks bloody amazing!

Sounds. Definitely damn good, to the wet slapping sound of the Cestus smashing into someones skull to the war-crazed yells of the Ghost of Sparta the sound is right there. Very well done sound effects. I was really into the demo so I don't really remember the music...but if it's like the other games in the series..it's damn good. :)

So...yeah...now I really wanna play the game. Hopefully MW2 will be really good and it will tide me over til March 2010...when there will only be CHAAAOS!!

Damian,

They just got them in yesterday, the first employee I talked to didn't even know they had them until she checked. So if someone says "Nothing comes with GoW 3 when you pre-order" tell them to check their drawer of pre-order perks and they'll find it.

Also, when you play it...make sure you put on the Cestus and finish an enemy with a held triangle. You will feel like Jason in Friday the 13th, when he uppercuts some dudes head off his body. :)

BBoy,

Voucher = Code, you got it!

Also if you purchase District 9 on Blu Ray, you get the demo:

http://bluray.ign.com/articles/103/1039917p1.html

October 28, 2009 - It was just announced this morning that the December 29th Blu-ray release of District 9 will now be packaged with a demo for God of War III.

The demo will be included on the same disc as the film, marking the first time both have been combined on one hybrid-style Blu-ray.

As a bonus, those who complete the God of War III demo will unlock a special making-of video feature on the upcoming game expected to be released in March 2010.

A demo for God of War III will also be included in the upcoming God of War Collection for PlayStation 3 on November 17.

I'll probably rent it and enjoy it. The scale of the game and the graphics look excellent, just like with every other God of War game. But I just can't shake the fact that it's the exact same game that I've already played three times with some new characters, combos, weapons, and enemies. Halfway through Chains of Olympus the gameplay really started to feel stale to me. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I kinda feel the same way, but I have been waiting for this to come out since GoW 2. I did play Chains of Olympus a little while back too...I didn't really find myself bored or anything.

The only recent game that did that to me was Uncharted 2. By the end of the game I just wanted it to end. Hahaha. I had more fun playing Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time and Batman: Arkham Asylum than Uncharted 2.

First time I've heard somebody say that about Uncharted 2. I need to play that game.

I agree, even thou GOW is one of my favorite franchises. That's the problem with sequels I guess, you don't want them to change too much of what made the older games great but provide a new experiance.

Annd you should play uncharted 2, best single player this gen. Also multiplayer is decent.

Never played God of War... does sound like a pretty decent game, though IMO it's not worth buying for me personally.

It's the ultimate hack n' slash, clean and brimming with some of the highest production values out there. Set in a richly detailed backdrop of Greek mythology, it's not without academic value too, actually. They just added their twist with Kratos to explain the decline of the Olympians and of the entire pantheon it seems.

Of course, if neither hack n' slash games nor Greek mythology interests you, there'd be no reason to buy this game.

...Gonna disagree with that one. Everyone is all over Uncharted 2's nuts like its ballsweat can cure cancer.

I was hugely looking forward to Uncharted 2, and in the end...I definitely felt a little let down. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game...but it's not the "best game EVAR MADE!!!11!!ONE!"

OK, yeah, it's not the best game ever...but still best single player this gen IMO....but I know how you feel, I hate a lot of "popular games" that everyone loves and it annoys me when people keep talking about them.

I can't believe you guys didn't like GOW II. It probably didn't have the "wow" factor of part 1 because it wasn't a new concept, but I personally thought II was better. Much more involved and took about 2x the time to beat. At least for me anyway, I like to hunt around and find all the hidden stuff.

I could never play that game on PSP, so I never tried Chains of Olympus.

I am with you I like GOW II more than the first one. I think the Chains of Olympus is one of the best PSP games made. I think I am going to pre order this one too.

Never said I didn't like God of War 2. That game was the pinnacle of my enjoyment of the series. Chains of Olympus is when it started to feel stale. I hope God of War 3 reinvigorates me for the series.
