Yeah they will net you some kind of gain. It really depends on what catback and what is done to the car. Typically you can see around 8-10 RWHP. I have seen 15+ with modded cars with a Flowmaster muffler.

I've got a cut out on my Borla exhaust, but it only gives me 3-4 rwhp gain according to my dyno tune I just had done. Of course the Borla is already pretty free flowing I guess so I can see greater gains coming when put on a stock exhaust...

I like being able to adjust the sound, wasn't so worried about the gain in HP with the cut out. I close the cut out at night or early in the morning out of respect for my neighbors.

I have headers and a electric cutout hooked up to stock SLP exhaust. It is hard to say how much faster it is with the cutout open but the sound at WOT is amazing. It is also puts a big target on you alerting law enforcement for at least a mile. I drove it once from Houston to Dallas open, then back with it closed, gas mileage only changed 1-2 mpg but this was cruising in 6th gear. My head was ringing when I got there and everyone else on the interstate next to me could not hear their stereo. It is nice to have both a loud and somewhat quiet car with the flip of a switch.
