I've been thinking about getting one. I've wanted an Iphone for quite some time but really don't want to change to ATT. I was online yesterday looking at reviews of the Droid. I may have to get one Friday. I'm planning on hitting the store to check them out.

Ya Ive never been a fan of sliders, but I think Im going to go with the Motorola one. The Eris is similar in style to the phone I have now so I would be better acclimated to it, but think Ill try something different this time.

You going to see if you can get any money from Envirophone or not bother with that? :P

I won't get a droid phone personally, happy with my current phone.

After owning three of them I will never buy another Motorola phone for the rest of my life.

Same here. Ive had 3 of them and after about 5-6 months random things start going wrong with them. Phone calls not being placed, completely turning off randomly, battery going dead as soon as you unplug it only to turn it on and off again to work, numbers being all FUBAR ie. you hit 4 and it comes up as a 9, loosing your whole contact list only to come back 4-5 hours later and so on. Also, Im not hard on my phones at all. Extremely careful with them yet those Motorola phones still bit the dust.

Ive had two CHEAP Samsung ones (now the first version of the Alias) and its preformed great for over a year. I just dont get it.

The Driod looks sweet but Ill be waiting for the second version to come out to see if Ill get it.

That's what I said about LG, I had 2 phones and they both failed. I bought the Voyager because I NEEDED a phone, turned out to be great.

The razor did suck, if that was the one (or one of) the ones you had, it's your own fault for buying it.

Ive never had a Moto so Im certainly not defending them. At this point Im not sure any of them are worth a damn long term. I HAVE to get one right away, so might as well be the new cool thing. Im sure less than a year from now it will be f*cking up and it will be onto something else :(

Never had a razr. Had an old V66 but I don't count that one. Had an i730 with Nextel, then when I switched over to Verizon my first phone was the worst I've ever owned, but I can't remember the name of it. Then had a Q, and was done after that. Been LG ever since -- the Chocolate was the best phone I've ever owned, and right now I have a Dare which is good but not great. Next phone will likely be a blackberry.

A good friend of mine designed the phone. I was over at his house for halloween and his g/f had the full verion of the phone, and it is freaking amazing. There will also be insurance with it for 7.99 a month so if anything goes wrong you can get it replace. Also I talked to him and he said the data rates will be the exact same as the blackberry. The screen is enormous and has 400,000 pixels. Same as Iphone w/ a full pullout keyboard. In chicago the 3g was amazing, I pulled up CTA and facebook and it loaded faster than it does here at work on our T3.

The phone is sleak, big, and has so many options I don't want list, you can look it up. There is only one big drawback but I am not going to list it :D

Um, that's impossible unless that friend worked for Google.

Google designed this phone 95%, Motorola just added phone parts and built it.

The screen is bigger than the iPhone.

It's slightly (very very slightly) larger than the iPhone, but just as thick.

Yes, same data plan as all other smart phones 30 for net, 40 for mobile internet modem.

I've had 2 RAZR's and a SLVR. Never had any problems, although i can never get a signal from my own bed. Weird, especially since i've lived in two different places. I like the phones, but the RAZR doesnt have a loud enough speaker, you have to listen to it in a certain spot. No complaints on the SLVR. I switched from those to a T Mobile Wing PDA/smartphone an dlove everything about it except the lag. So now im waiting for the Storm 2, and i'm going with PagePLus has anyone heard of them? $39/month unlimited everything! And they use Verizon's network!

Want to bet that car on hold in your signature? I saw the droid over 3 months ago when my g/f and I went out on a date with them, there really good friends of ours (held the prototype in my hands, for verficiation one of the initial problems of the phone is that it was sending double texts now fixed). We actually had a convo at the table about the phones name because motorola marketing couldn't come up with a good one. It was origionally going to be name the tao but that was canceled after lucas signed off on calling it the driod. In my rush post before the screen size is slightly larger than the iphone and has double the pixels. The wording makes it seem the same. There has only been one article leaked about the problem with the phone, but there is nothing motorola can do about it, googles problem. And motorola did everything with the phone, there just loading android 2.0 on there as an o.s. In my previous post if you read it correctly I said he designed the phone, not the software. :punch:

This phone is the Android 2.0 flagship, Google had people at Motorola working hand in hand with them. They sent out many prototypes over the past few months, everything else you posted is easily available on the internet.

They weren't going to call it "tao" that was a production name for the phone, everything has a production name before it's really named.

Nothing you said proves you aren't lying.

i just think its funny that verizon is marketing it as an iphone killer, when they would turn around and sell the iphone in a heartbeat if apple would let them.

i was reading reviews today and i wasnt that impressed. the music player apparently sucks (all verizon phones have sucky music players) and most of the features that the iphone lacks i wouldnt use anyway. theres no apps i would need to run simultaneously other than the music player and the iphone does that already.

AT&T has a private contract for the iPhone, so they aren't losing money that could never get. The contract spans to sometime in 2010, in which Verizon MAY pick up the iPhone.

I don't like apple, don't care much for the iPhone, and the Droid looks fucking awesome, so I'm going to pick one up.

cool, but there are millions more who would pick up the iphone. the only thing verizon is doing with the droid is taking sales away from ITS OWN blackberry phones.

and i know why they dont have the iphone. apple went to them first and they refused. thats a gamble they took and lost. it sucks because like you said verizon has better service.

Hey man. Talking about this at the lunch table and I think we figured it out. Unlike apple we have removable memory where apples is on the main board. So android dedicated half the onboard memory to apps. Other goes to email and stuff like that. We were thinking google doesn't want people buying a game then sharing the card. Not sure why they don't write a signature file. Good point. This is obviously a google issue not motorola so they would be the ones that need to fix it.

You’re going to have to see if you can get that fixed. This is the phone for techies, which is going to be the primary market for it being open source. All the girls and iphone users won’t change, but people that know what there actually talking about that want to buy this have backed out already that I know. Games are going to the Smartphone, as well as huge applications. You can’t just dedicate 256 megs of ram to games and apps. That is really going to hurt the phone. You need to open up the apps and games potion to the SD card. Just some advice from some techies. Good luck, cyas soon!

looks like it is true. 256 mb for apps. which seems like a lot, but then I'm not a developer. ...

Ryan, thanks for keeping me in the loop… it’s much appreciated!

You’re right though, the targeted demographics would most probably be techies, followed closely by gamers. I understand the rationale of using an SD card but that makes the phone tantamount to the old school “Game Boy” where you had to carry a pouch containing all of your games; but in this case you would have a SD card for music, another for games, and possibly another for videos (if you’re organized).
The 256 MB limitation will hamper early adoption for those that are aware of the limits. And may be the cause for a spike in Help Center calls and product returns. I was primed and ready to buy the Droid on the 6th, but have now decided to sit it out and wait for v2.1 if I don’t purchase the iPhone 3GS instead.

Regards,
Wayne.

Good news, talked with my guy last night, initial estimates are in and roughly 150,000 units have been sold the opening weekend already. That's not bad since there was not a lot of time before the phone was available. People are still waiting for contracts to be up and it is christmas phone season and alot of competition.

He showed me a cool trick last night where if you take a small magnet, really small, and plug it up on the back of the phone on the top half, you can make the phone think it's in a docking station or gps car mount, and pull the features off it.
