Hey guys, I figured I'd post this here instead of the wheel/tire section because it relates to drag racing. I have some M/T DRs that are pretty worn down, and I don't know how much longer I can use them. This would be for track only, and I don't really need that big of a burnout. How low have you guys run them before throwing them out? I guess, how little tread would you guys recommend running them at?

Seen guys still lifting the front tires with no visible tread left on mickey dr's. Starts to become a safety issue at this point though IMO.

As mentioned, plenty run a drag radial when the tread marks are gone. But you need to keep an eye on them if that's the case, and once they show cords, toss them and get new ones.

Once they're totally gone, you probably have 5 passes left at most before you're in the danger zone, if the tire is still even working.

Some people, depending on who you talk to say that the tires really only work for about 20 passes then they start to go away... depends on who you talk to though, as I've heard between 10 to 30.

Slicks on the other hand, I've gotten 50 runs out of a set of 28x10.5S tires and had them work as good on pass # 50 as they did when they were new. From my exp, as long as the slicks don't have a ton of exposure to sunlight/cold, they're generally good for 50 to 60 runs, depending on your burnout, how hard the car leaves, and how heavy it is. (how the car leaves and weight being how hard the sidewall is worked, more they're worked the more likly you can actually wear the sidewall out before the rubber is gone)

Till the cords show

never had any issues I get 60 passes or so out of a set. Have not really killed the sidewalls or anything

I bought some 275/40/17 Bald MT ET Streets for $20 3 years ago. Had a number of passes on them and just recently took them off. (needed the rims) It still looks like I did when I got them, so they still got a few passes/burnouts left. I figured I'd be safe till I saw cord.

Did this with them back in July with around 17-20psi I think. 1.71 60':
