Racer's Lounge - Chrysler Is Dropping The Dodge Viper..... =-(

I Know I know... It’s Chrysler. But yes there have been rumors that Chrysler was thinking about dropping the Dodge Viper. Since its numbers sales aren't very good for that matter. But performance wise it’s pretty much unbeatable. With one of Dodge's best performance Vipers, the SRT-10 ACR. Which produced 600 hp & 560 lb tq that also came with the "Hardcore Package" including better aerodynamics and reduced weight in the car. The aerodynamics package can produce 1000 lbs of down force at 150 mph. 10 times more then the base Viper SRT-10. All of this making it a dream car for the track. The ACR got 7:22 @ the Nurburgring track beating the Corvette ZR1 & the GTR and stomping on Ferrari, Lamborghini, & Porsche. Along with the Dodge Viper Hennessey Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. Which takes a lot to pronounce.... being once declared the fastest car in the World let alone being the fastest Dodge Viper ever. Costing in the range of $187,XXX producing 1000 hp & 1100 lb tq. Which beat the "$1,000,000" Bugatti Veyron 0-200 mph by nearly 4 seconds and pulling off a 217 mph in the standing mile.

Some may ask why the Dodge Viper hasn't been as successful as its competitor the Corvette. The Viper was never advertised very well. With having one of the best times in Nurburgring, performance, and being an all round bad ass car you would never really see any advertisements about the Viper on TV or in a magazine. The price range is very good for what the car can offer to the consumers. The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 will sell off the showroom floors for usually $92,XXX. Compared to the Corvette ZR1 which usually sells in the range of $106,XXX. You can’t go a day without seeing some kind of Corvette on the streets. But with the Viper it would be AMAZING if you saw one driving along on the streets. Now we all know it’s not because of its looks.... Which I feel along with many others it is one of the nastiest cars you will ever see driving on the streets. (That is if you can find one.) But what the people will usually say is its ride comfort and lack of interior options and styling compared to its competitor, the new Corvettes interior has many more options and luxury then the Dodge Viper. Comparing the best of the two the Viper ACR interior got stripped down and doesn't come with a radio, speakers, amplifier, trunk carpet, hood pad, tire inflator, fog lights, and has a stiffer suspension. All of this you can imagine it isn't as user friendly on the streets compared to the Corvette ZR1. Which is basically a user friendly car on the streets and track that comes with a in dash screen Bose CD/MP3 player with a navigation system, XM radio, power & heated seats, blue tooth wireless technology and many other options.

With the Dodge Viper sale numbers being low Chrysler has finally came to their conclusion on dropping their high performance muscle car summer of 2010 with ideas of maybe bringing it back in 2012. Hopefully not changing the looks but making it more a user friendly car on the road.

The Dodge Caliber will be dropped in 2012, but a vehicle of a similar segment is set to arrive around the same time along with Dodge Dakota. An all new Dodge Charger will be expected in 2010. Looking forward to that coming out.
Jeep Compass, Patriot, & Commander will also be dropped.
Chrysler will be dropping the PT Cruiser. (Didn’t see that one coming)

what i really liked about vipers, at least the older ones, was the styling. Nothing else has styling like that. Mid way through they got pretty boring looking. Then towards the end, they redeamed themselves. The latest looks like a corvette that sucked on the ooze from teenage mutant ninja turtles.

Haha yea same here. they have always been my favorite car... but what I really like from the new Vipers is the hood and headlights. and cant forget the engine! :)

hopefully they make the charger look like the old ones going in the way of the challenger.

and in 2012 they need to facelift the viper imo

The premise of the article was fine, but there were numerous errors as stated. It goes a long way with the professor to make something easy for them to read, whether you're taking an English course or not.

The reason you don't see as many Vipers as Vettes on the road is because base model Vettes can be had around 50k; the same cannot be said for the Viper. Hell, even the Z06 is cheaper than the Viper and is closer to the base snake in price (and probably performance) than the ZR1.

I'm glad they didn't make some cheap "base" viper you could get cause you couldn't afford the real thing.

thanks.... think we already covered that bud? :confused: ANYWAY yes the base Corvette is cheaper. paying $48,930 you get a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 engine Corvette Coupe that makes 430 hp. compared to Vipers only base type car, the SRT-10 Coupe which is $92,125. you get a 8.4 liter V10 engine that makes 600 hp. You really cant compare the two....

now the new Corvette Z06 is more on the SRT-10 level. even though it still has less hp with a smaller engine. yes it is a GREAT deal compared to the Viper. still costing way less. but think about the ZR1. the Z06 & ZR1 price range is a HUGE difference.... while the ACR & ZR1 are pretty much the same price. so yea I would rather take a Corvette Z06. but I would MUCH rather take a ACR over the ZR1 if I was to be paying that much.

i know the gen 1 vipers were low in HP but for the time it was great. chargers are putting out 425ish

why the fuck is the v-10 putting out shitty tq compared to the hp?? small engines usually have the low tq compared to the hp like the 4.6 mod.

yea the 1992 Dodge Viper back then was INSANE. 400 hp 450 lb tq weighing 3400 lbs. 0-60 in 4.4 sec & did a low 13 sec 1/4 mile. all that for $50,000. but the 2009 is 600 HP at 6000 rpm and 560 lb tq at 5100 rpm

yes you are correct... I am just saying the specs so it is easier to show. I am a person who sees things better visually so that's why I post numbers and everything like that. I wouldn't really get a comparison if its just words like "the SRT10 is faster then Z06" I would prefer to see numbers.... I know you didn't say base Vette to base Viper.
