Racer's Lounge - Should I purchase the PS3 Slim or the Regular PS3?

I need to pick up a new PS3 as my old one stopped working on me about a week ago. I'm leaning towards the PS3 slim as I've heard it produces less heat and runs quieter. Anyone?

1) See if Sony will repair it for free (warranty?).
2) Get a slim if Sony doesn't cover you.

Nah, tried calling and since it's passed the 1-year covered warranty, it'll be 149.00 to fix it. I'm taking that 150 bux and putting it into a new PS3. Since the PS3is fairly new, I'm jus' wondering if there are any bugs in the system that needs to be worked out and if I'm better off purchasing the regular version.

Personally, with the new fat PS3's not having the original PS2 playing powers, I would get a PS3 slim and a PS2.

Only a few of the orginal PS3s played PS2 games, the newer the PS3 the less of a chance it plaed the 2 games. You can google the SS number and see if it played them or try putting one in.
I would just spend the green on getting yours fixed. $150<$300

I'd say go for the Regular PS3 as it will be cheaper then the slim one and I doubt there is much difference.

Heh, my ps3 plays ps2 and ps1........AND it still works like a champ........
also after talking with SCEA personally on the phone, They told me, they can repair these models like mine still or completely replace them...apparently they still have the old models in a warehouse at least this is what the scea lady told me....

In that case, get a slim.

Get yours fixed and put a bigger HD in it if you need the space and you'll have the best setup you can for $300.

Then you must not read around too often.

I went out and purchased a slim. I really like the way it looks - I know others may disagree. The only problem I have with it is that when ejecting a disc, it's quite loud. It sounds like it's broken or something.

You could probably sell your broken one and make some money, 50 bucks or so? Maybe more. I sold a broken 360 for 45 bucks and those are a dime a dozen.
