He's got skills, that much is obvious. But just like George Lucas and his Star Wars movies, they're all flash and no substance. Was there a point to all of this? I was bored 1:30 into it...

To show he knows what he's doing. If someone from Pixar etc sees this, they'll be in contact.

You guys realize it takes tens of thousands of dollars to build the computers it took to render just that short clip? The value of those computers is more than most peoples car on this site.

It's a reel. He was showing off his modeling, texturing, lighting, camera moves, and animating skills. Basically, showing off the areas he excels at in order to land a job. In the world of animation, what you just watched was his resume.

Not at all. Based on the info he had at the end (especially the part about taking 3 months to render that all out, and using VRay as his rendering engine, I know his pain), that reel was more than likely done on a computer costing around 3-5k. My animation/rendering machine cost just under 5k.

I didn't watch the end, lol. Oops.

Yeah, if it was a month, then it could have just been an enthusiast setup. I figured it took 5-7 days. That'll show me for not watching til the end.

Unreal. But if he is using this as a resume I'd correct the spelling of the word "sily" at 2:43.

I don't think the gentleman that did this speaks English as his first language.

With that said, he could spell every single word in that piece wrong, it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference. They want animators, not English majors. A lot of the animators I know couldn't spell correctly (more so a lack of caring than it is knowing how to spell the words correctly) to save their lives.

i agree on that

people have to specialise cause no one has the brain nor time to learn everything correctly.
