Drag Racing Tech - 28in DR Debate: 295 Vs. 275

I am currently running a built 408 in a stalled/ geared/ 01 TA. I have MT 275-50-15's on at the moment but know I will run out of gear before the traps. I am debating on going with a 295 or a 275 in 28's.
I want your opinions on whether the extra .7 inch or so of contact patch with the 295 will make-up for/ justify getting a heavier tire vs. the 275. I am happy with the contact patch of my current tire but worry that the smaller width of the 28in 275 will offset some of the traction gains.
If anyone has any input or experience on the matter I would love to hear it.
Thanks
Daniel

I am sure the weight is tiny between the two and the more traction the better. You won't notice the weight but you will notice loss of traction if it occurs.

I've never seen a 295 tire that is 28"
They are usually 29.8" tires, in a 295/65r-15 size.
A 275/50r-15 is 26.4" tall
A 265/60r-15 is 27.8" tall

Actually is there a size 295 that is like 28 tall... like a 295/55/15 or something?
I've run 325 50 15's, pretty nice tire. I'm going to try some 275 60 15's for next year, hoping to run high 9's on motor and who knows what on the sauce.

if your suspension is setup correctly, the 275/60 will do fine. That tire has been in the 7.30's. You can also run some 275 drag radial classes. Nothing wrong with the 295 tire either.

I'll probably go with the 295s, as I am still on stock suspension. Thanks for the input guys.

I've got a motor in my head, but not in the car yet.

are they alright with a t brake?
I am running 3 year old 26x10x15 et drags right now and was thinking of running a 28 inch dragradial instead if it will take the shock of a 5500 shock with a brake
See the problem is I run it in an index class(10.90 H.R) and I need it to be very consistant
sorry for the hijack

I would stick with slicks as they are easier to use and get right, but if you really want to run a 275 they work with a brake, just look at Smith, RPM, and ATV. They are all deep in the 5's off a t brake on 275's.

1.35 = 28W off the brake
1.35 = 325 off the brake

Sorry I meant to say that you used to be able to buy a 295 tire in a regular street tire, I had some in the mid 90's.

1.35 = 28W off the brake
1.35 = 325 off the brake
were they consistant 1.35`s or was it like 1.35 one run and like 1.38 the next
cause my class is 10.90 hotrod and basically if you run a 10.92 you are on the trailer
maybe I should just use the 28 inch slicks I just dont feel like cutting up the bumper

Although turbo is a bit different than you nitrous guys,
What size wheel do you recommend stretching the 275 over? I am about to order my new rear wheels and can do either a 12" or 10". Either will be double beadlocked, and I think the 275 DR record was set on a 12" wheel?
What do you guys recommend there?
