General LSX Automobile Discussion - First driving impression; A6 LS2 Corvette

I have a friend that recently traded up his A4 '04 GTO and got an A6 '06 Vette. Black/black 1LT. Very nice car. So I've been bugging him to let me drive since he got it, and he let me drive when we went to lunch yesterday. I'll say this; it's head and shoulders above C4s (which I've driven EXTENSIVELY), and a big improvement over the C5s (which I drive semi-regularly). Besides the obvious interior improvement, the change that struck me to most was the steering; It's noticeably quicker than the C5, and way better feeling. The power difference between the LS1 and the LS2 is noticeable, but not overwhelming so. Definitely enough power to break the tires loose going WOT in 1st gear, with a good chirp into 2nd when I hit the (very nice) upshift paddle. Gear changes are faster than I expected, but you still have to anticipate the shift more-so than a car with a true automatically-controlled manual transmission. Even so, very well spaced gears, and crisp changes in fully automatic mode. Overall this car is a marked improvement over the C5, though not nearly as much so as the C5 over the C4. I'm looking forward to borrowing mom's '01 Z51 6spd and racing him soon :cool:

Were the paddle shifters fun for up and down shifting or would it get old after a while and then you'd just end up sticking it in auto all the time? BTW hows the S2000?

Honestly the only time I'd do paddle shifting is when I'm doing it just for shits and giggles, or canyon-carving, or on a road course. And the S2000 is good, just trying to save money to put it in the shop for a little maintenance.

The C6 is a marked improvement over the C5, as it should be considering the C5 was first introduced in 97.

Have never driven a regular C6 though, just the Z06. Nice to hear the auto still has some balls to it. I've heard nothing but great things about the Ls3 C6's.

LS2 is old news. Try an LS3. ;)

And from what I understand, the paddle shifters in the LS3 cars are much more responsive (less lag-time to anticipate, more like a real manual shift).

Since you like it so much go trrade in that honda in for a vette....

Give me the money :eyes:. I always have and always will be a Corvette lover, but that doesn't mean I have to own one.
