well ive been eyeing up my friends 86 z28 for awhile, he calls me the other day and tells me he wants to get rid of it. The car is mechanically sound other then little stuff(inside door handles dont work, fans are hardwired) nothing I cant fix. the body is extremely straight on it and the paint is great, has a fairly fresh 305/700r4. Only issue is the t tops leaked and there are 2 5 or so inch patches of rust on the floorboard. I wanted to build a track car out of it but not sure if patched floorboards are rigid enough to withstand any kind of power. Also im in college right now, finishing up my iron block for my 4th gen and have a few other bills. He gave me a deal i cant pass up, dirt cheap for the cond of the car. What would you guys do?

pay your bills first. UNLESS he is literly giving the car away

Do you want that particular body style that badly? If you do I understand, but to me it's an old car with old tech and it's just...old. If you had disposable income and time then sure, why not I guess. But you're in school, with a money eating F-body already so I say use your funds for the projects that are already going; car, school, bitches, etc.

yeah i mean i have always liked the body of the 3rd gen esp for a racecar. and he is practically giving it away. I think im going to jump on it and park it until i get my bills tottally paid off and free up some money.

dunno that if i was given one that i would take it. the market for those cars is pretty much non existent. ive had a few freinds that used to have 3rd gens they ended up just sending em away to the car recycler after they lowered the price on them several times and still didnt sell.

Under 800 dollars for under 100k miles. Otherwise it's not worth it. Actually, 800 is a lot.

Subframe connectors and a cage will fix that floor not holding power thing.

3rd gens are worth some money if the miles are down and there are clean with nice paint... There is a local with a 92Z with under 800 miles and I had an 83Z with 26k original miles and a BBC in it...... another local has an 87 or so GTA with like under 1,000 miles or something crazy....

Turd 3rd gens are a dime a dozen but so is any other turd.

Its been repainted which i know could kill resale. Its painted that factory blue though and the paint is extremely straight.
