Stereo & Electronics - NOW I"M PISSED!!!

So now I'm PISSED! :bang: Took my car in at 10:00am this morning to get the Viper 790xv installed. They told me no problem be about 4 to 6 hours. Drove by at 1:00pm and my car hadn't left its spot where I parked it! Didn't hear anything up to 5:30pm so I called, they said they were almost done and to call back at 7:00. Called back, said they only had a few more wires to connect and to come on up. Went up there, come to find out they cant find the accessary wire to wire the remote start into to get the heater/ac to come on with the remote start. So I wait another hour while they try to hook that up. Getting close to closing time and the Insall manager says, We have a problem the remote start is doing some "Funny" things and we have to call DEI (the manufacturer of the alarm) to get the diagrams for my car, so we are just going to pull the fuse and call them on tuesday...TUESDAY! They had my shit ALL DAY LONG and they just now are figuring this out and I have to wait 4 more days for this!! :bang: I am so frustrated! What should I do?!? Should I ask for some kind of compensation or am I overreacting?

Was this a major chain that did the install or a locally owned place?

Aftermarket electronic installs never go as planned. If I thought a job would take 3 hours, I always told people it would take 4 hours. Some people just aren't realistic. They forget to allow time for "funny" stuff.

Ya it was at Circuit City. I'm a little more calm about it today because I understand things can go wrong, but they had it all day and I feel that the problem should have been realized early on. Agree?

I was going to but C. City was $200 cheaper than the local shop for the same alarm. I asked the local about price matching, they said no. So I don't mind waiting 3 more days to save $200!

Be happy my sterio, sat tuner, speakers, amp and sub was supposed to take "maybe" 1 day, in at 9 out by 5, 2 days later they were not even close. Worse yet, I had to redo ALL of the wiring. They ran the SAT tuner antenna wire across the floor boards right above the CATS. YUP YOU GUESSED IT, melted it and shorted out the tuner. Luckily it was within the warrenty and BestBuy took it back, very lucky.
All I can say is CHECK ALL THE WORK when its done.
Be happy you got your car back to drive.

Ive seen alot of hack jobs come from Circuit City and Best Buy that we had to fix at our shop. I would never take my car or recommend anyone else take their car to a big box store.

Yea well wait till you have problems down the road from their shotty install. Then that $200 you saved wont be worth the lost time and headaches. Would you rather have a good shop tune and install your H/C or would you take it to the guys who rush stuff in and out the door but save you some money? The quality of the installer is very important in how long your alarm lasts and how good it works.
Hope it all turns out alright in the end.

Yep, have to agree. No matter how good of a deal I see at the chain stores, my car wil never get any closer to those shops than their parking lots. The storys I have heard and the installs I have seen would give you nightmares.

I hope they didn't try to use a connector on the Key Sense module.
The key sense modules used to bypass the factory key sense security function is very sensitive to current and needs to be soldered instead of some of the typical butt connector installs done by some places.
You can ask them about that but I'm sure once the hit DEI tech support they'll ask em how they made that connection :)

Ya, I've learned my lesson but nothing I can do now. Hopefully things will turn out good. I hope that DEI gives them the information they need!

Thats too funny. I find here the Circuit City stereo people are all ricers and dont know shit. Maybe its the same there? But that is pretty amature if they cand find a wire, I took me less than an hour to install my alarm, and that was with Starter Kill, Remote start, shock sensor, hood switch, and adding power locks (that took an hour to install, less than 10 minutes to integrate). My advice would be to avoid that place next time. Thats a joke.

I'd hate to see what the install looked like if it only took you an hour....
I'm sure everything worked fine but did you even give any thought into hiding all of the wiring so a thief can't find any of it since that is the single most important part of a good install? if you say you did then you are lying because it takes longer to get all the connections soldered and wired up properly before the alarm even gets into the car than it took for you to do your whole install. LOL
DirectTech is a dealer website. It requires a password to access it's database.

I install for bestbuy. We are SUPPOSED to fallow some strict install rules. THE most important is to SOLDER all connections for alarms. Which pretty much no one else does, not even dealerships. As for them not finding the acc wire, its on the techsoft printout. Hell i can print it out right now for ya.
12 volt - Red*
Starter - Yellow*
Ignition - Pink*
Acc (heater blower)- Orange*
Acc - Brown*
* heavy gauges wires in ignition switch harness located under the dash by the steering column
Passlock wires - 2 small guage wires in oranging sheathing near ignition harness
Brake wire - Light Blue(+) - at brake switch or wire harness running by the door sill
Reverse wire - light green wire (+) in white harness in passenger kickpanel)
Tach - white wire in lower harness of PCM. Pin 35 for 98 and Pin 10 for 99-up
Trunk release - Black/white at switch
Headlights - Yellow(+) - at headlight switch
Parking lights - Brown(+) - at headlight switch
Horn - black(-) - steering column harness
VSS (vehicle speed sense wire) - Green/white - Radio harness on camaros...at cruise control module on Firebirds. (normally used for navigation systems)
Factory arm - (+) - Gray at BCM
Factory disarm - (+) - Tan at BCM
Door Lock - Red/black (-) at BCM
Door Unlock - Orange/Black (-) BCM
Door/Trunk trigger - White (-) at BCM
**You'll have to wire the alarm for domelight supervision so that the BCM "wakes" back up**
Drivers window up - Blue*
Drivers window down - Brown*
Passenger window up - Light Blue*
Passenger window down - Tan*

PCM is the computer in the engine compartment near the windshield on the passenger side.

*1 The PCM is located under the hood on the passenger side inner fender at
the firewall. On the V6 the wire is located in pin 54, and on the V8 the
wire is located in pin 35.
*2 The BCM is located in the passenger kick, just in front of the blower
motor.
*3 The tan will unlock the drivers door and the gray/black will unlock the
passenger door. Wire each as a 5-wire system with separate relays. See
direct fax document # 1052
*4 Not all models include this circuit.
*5 Use gray/black for the drivers door and black/white for the passengers
door. Both triggers must be diode isolated.
*6 Some models are equiped with a factory alarm. The only way to disarm
these alarms is with the factory remote or turning on the ignition. To turn
off the factory alarm, see "direct fax document #1051".

What they told me was that there was no orange wire coming out of the ignition harness for the accessory. You think they weren't looking good enough or did GM change the color on the 02 model Camaro since it was the last model year? Oh byt the way, only 2 more days left to wait! :)

Always love when the big box installers and some small shops forget to do this one. Nothing like running out to your car at 3 am in your underwear cause your factory alarm is going off.
