Automotive News, Media & Press - Fastest LS1 Period in Hot Rod Mag.

I just picked up the April edition of Hot Rod and found an article called World's Most Extreme LS1s. It had Mike Kleman of Rapid Motorsports with the Fast Naturally Aspirated Title. Dave Whitten of Ortonville, MI had the Fastest Heads-and-Cam. Sean Mangan of Plainfield, IL had the Fastest Cam Only. Allan Futral of Futral Motorsports had the Fastest Six-Speed. And last but not where to being the least, Ronnie Duke of Fenton, MI has the Fastest Period Title. This guy has a fortified 387 C5-R motor with a F1R Procharger and a 100shot of nitrous. This motor lays down 1181HP without the spray. Is he a member of LS1Tech and who is he? Is there a website I can look at this car in action? Is the car "streetable" as far as able to run on pump gas?

I'd say no on pump gas. he was at the last ls1tech race. his shop is on the right (Hardcore Motorsports)

...And his user name is 1badls1. I believe the car has been raced with VP C16 as the fuel.

Just looking at their shop from their website they look to have a amazing setup. 39,000 square foot shop is huge, MIT is only 12,000 and thats big for a performance shop.

Have you noticed that Agostino disappeared from site when the 8.50 Wheel-to-wheel car arrived on the scene? In any case, I would like to tee it up with the guy just to see if I could stay close to him.

Stealth did you ever get your COG stuff worked out?

Also, I think ARE dropped because of other "problems" but will resurface shortly...:)

Ronnie's car is quite the machine. It made a nice center piece at the shop's grand opening up here a few weeks ago. You've got to love show car quality with go car speed. :D

The facilities are top notch and the shop talent list is equally impressive. It's gonna be a long hot summer up around these parts this year. :D

Very good article. I saw it about a week and a half ago; a friend that gets it gave it to me. Ron Duke's car is very impressive. I believe he does drive it here and there. He did offer me a ride once....so I'm guessing it see's the street every now and then. It does have a license plate.

Just remember that Ronnie's car was built completely by Wheel to Wheel powertrain and driven by Kurt Urban of Wheel to Wheel. Not sure how fast Ronnie has driven the car, but he does not the experience behind the wheel that Kurt has ;)

BigBoss,
Yes, we've got the cog setup all worked out. You can see some photos at http://www.hollowayllc.com/stealthindex.htm , although we are currently changing the ductwork at the blower to allow for the new Pro M maf.

Didn't Ron hire most of the wheel to wheel guys to work at Hardcore? Either way, it is a sweet car and a sweet shop too. I was in there on Monday, and got a good look at his car (it's getting new head gaskets right now). It really is mostly stock.

I agree it's a very impressive and innovative car that makes him the new Top Dog.

My car obviously has a comparable setup; a few more cubes, similar blower cfm, 100 wet shot, weighs about the same (e.g., like a tank), but hydraulic versus mechanical cam. When I get the new Pro M MAF installed and tuned, it's done.

I wonder if he would be willing to come to Denver and race me at 8500 DA for a cup of coffee?

So whats the word with those Pro MAF's, are they available now to purchase, I might need one if my MAF gives me trouble w/the power I could possibly make....

Stealth who made those COGS for you?

Yes, I should get my Pro M maf this week. Cogs were installed by Dragon race Engieering. Cogs were purchased from a supplier in Nevada? See the April 2004 Hot Rod mag.

Fact is, Ronnie hired 3 of the best guys from Wheel to Wheel. Guess I should thank him, because I will be replacing one of those guys at Wheel to Wheel in a few weeks :D

Crank pulley has 82 teeth and blower has 29 teeth, which works out to be like an 8" crank pulley and 2.95" blower pulley.

What boost do you expect to see from that...

Me and Jeremy are running 73T and 31T setups from ASP.....still working on getting them exactly right, we need to figure out a way to get the belt to run under the tensioner instead of over for more belt wrap.....

Thats a 7" crank and 3" blower pulley.......

PSJ can probably tell us more about my expected boost than I can, but we're thinking it should make around 20 lbs. at sea level, and a lot less up here.

I pulled 746rwhp with 17psi slightly above sea level with a smaller engine so I would think you would pull as much if not more like 800-825rwhp as long as you have the fuel and intercooling to support the number/timing.

I saw Ronnies car at Thunder. Talked to him and Kurt. They are both real down to earth nice guys. Ronnie was saying that Kurt does all the driving in that car and he sticks to his other car. The other one he brought to thunder. It was badass also..... full weight 4000LB beast. It ran mid ten's... I have alot of pic's of both from Thunder ill post them up later..... you all are drooling over the car???? You should of seen his truck and trailer set-up............

Well, we'll have an answer on power in a few weeks after we install the new maf and tune and dyno the car. If the YSI is as good as Vortech says it is, we should make around 850 rwhp on the blower, adjusted to sea level.

We continue to use 108 UL gas and have never seen any sign of detonation or knock. The GM PCM will obviously remove timing if it sees such.

Yes, Ronnie is known to be a collector of TAs. The local dealerships give him a call when they see a black one on the market. :D He some of his other classic cars on display for the grand opening as well.

I must say the Truck and Trailor setup looked very sweet parked in the garage at the shop. I think I could get usedd to having a big screen TV to review launch footage at the track. :D

Whats the setup with the 8 rib D-1SC car? 6-speed auto, ET?

Hey, I don't want to step on his thread, he deserves it. My original reply was simply intended to say that our cars are reasonably comparable and I would like to tee it up with him to see if I could compete. If I lose, I get in my 2002 Firebird and give him a one second spot!

If you were to make 850rwhp you would be right there with him... maybe a tick slower.

I'm not sure if you can hit 850rwhp without C16 but heck we didn't think I'd hit 746rwhp unlocked with C12.

You have a 'cooler?

stealth
03-10-2004, 05:40 PM
Yea, intercooler from Extreme Machines in Canada (33"x3.5"x12").

Our concern about octane is the primary reason we added the 100 shot. But again, we have never recorded any detonation.
