Hot new Cadillac models coming in 2005
Dear 001,
Here's a tip for you I just got out of Detroit. I spoke to a Cadillac rep there who confirmed that the Escalade-V is just around the corner. They didn't discuss pricing, but admitted that the Escalade V-Series prototypes have been testing with supercharged-V8, V-12, and one V-16 engines. They said the V-12 is nearly certain. Soon thereafter, the XLR-V will be produced, with a supercharged version of the Northstar V-8, which will also underpin the STS-V in due course. Horsepower should be at least 400bhp. Thought you might want to know. I'll keep my ear open for more.

A V-16 motor? I think the V-12 would be a huge jump... I doubt we'll see the V-16 anytime soon with gas prices going up and if you wanna shock the market, slap on a supercharger or a produce a V-12.
V-16...........now we know where Boeing get's their engines.

The escalade will for sure be sporting the V-12.......thats the V series of that though...
The XLR for sure is underpowered the way it is now, it needed 400 to begin with.....then it would be an untouchable roadster....:)

The XLR isn't a drag car, and doesn't need eleventy billion HP in it's class to compete with it's pricey foreign rivals.
It is however, good to see the V strategy being implemented with the sophisticated Northstar engines.
If Cadillac wants to be a real player against the Germans, they need a stout V12 for their premium machines. I hope they redo the interior of the Escalade while they're at it.

V-16...........now we know where Boeing get's their engines.FWIW The SL600 and SL65 Mercedes have Twin Turbo V12s. If Caddy really wants the XLR to have the same "prestige" as the Mercedes SL, then they'll need to provide the same high end range. The XLR is a start, but the Northstar isn't the platform the Merc needs. Now punch it out to 5.5+ Liters then maybe it will start to get worthwhile.....personally I've never thought the XLR was a good idea for Caddy since it will be and has been percieved and reported on as an over-priced Corvette with less of what makes the Corvette such a great car (less handling, less power).
ever almost forget a socket extension inside the lifter valley? image that thing, you could forget a damn baseball bat

Looks like a 16-cylinder gen III to me :usa: :)
look at the water pump, block, heads, accessory drive system....
Wonder why they would go back to the traditional type of valve cover rather than the far more leak resistant "lid" style we have now
Either way, I'll wait for the centerbolt valve cover V-16 to come out :jest:
