I test drove a yellow 6spd here in town and got a walk in the door price of 27,190. Wanted a silver or black and they would give me $4,500 off of one of those (would have to bring one in). Had an out of town dealership email me with a price of $27,378 on a 6spd. I think I am going to gamble and wait for even bigger rebates and/or 0% or wait on the 05's. There is not really much more room for the dealerships to go, assuming the cars have been on the lots for awhile, because the holdback is probably gone now. After looking at the inventory across TX, GM is going to have to do something to move these cars - there are lots of them out there (no pun intended).

The best I have gotten down to is 7,000 off (only GMAC rebate, rest is dealer ???). Since they volunteered 6,500 off and then called me back with the 7k offer, I am guessing there is a little more there. Another dealer advertised 8,000 off, but on discussion with them it turns out they have 1,295 of pinstriping, paint sealer, tint, etc. added on to the MSRP, so (and i quote the internet sales mgr) "the dealership doesn't get killed on these". At least they were honest about being sh**s! Still can't decide if I should pull the trigger or stick it out for year end. There are lots of cars here in TX, but the majority are auto (hoping for stick), and color selection will be getting limited....

I just saw one in advertised in the paper yesterday for $25,800 or something, but that was with all these little extra discounts like military, loyalty and something else. So, yes they are still making some money. They give the low price in the paper to get you in and let the car do the talking from there to sell it to you.

Talked to Margaret @ Buz Post about the 8k off. They actually mark up the MSRP with a bunch of dealer installed items (crap or not - you be the judge - tint, paint & leather protector & pinstripes) upping the cost to you by $1,295, so the actual deal is not as good as it looks in the paper ad!

27,000 even for an m6 quick silver 12 miles on the odo. North NJ.
Took some work! Sales manager was an ass. I worked him hard for 30 minutes.
I did not like his attitude. Got him down to 27,000 Then I walked away while all his saleman looked at him not able to close the deal.
27,500 was not a problem but it took the 30 minutes to chisel another 500 off.
Wonder if i'll get a call back?

Central North Carolina, High Point, Greensboro, Winston Salem and Kernersville all selling for invoice, approximately $2600 below sticker. Plus if you finance with GMAC they will give you 2.9% for 60 months AND an additional $3500 in rebate money. If you buy one in stock they will even give up the holdback $926. Mine was $26164 plus tax and tags. Pick it up Monday. Anticpation is a funny thing.

I'd wait another 2 months at least, the 04's will be taking up space on dealer lots as the 05's are comming in and they will be giving away the 04's at dealer cost, otherwise they'll have 05's that arent selling and 04's sitting next to them. I really don't see the 05's taking off with huge sales volumes, even with the extra horsepower it's the same car as the 04 that sold very very slowly, the 05's will sell just as slow, so there is no way dealerships can sell 04's with with big margins over cost, just sit and wait and don't get suckered into buying one at a certain date, because it will go even lower laterwhen they still don't take off. If you think you can get a good deal on a car on the 10th of any given month the deal will be even better at teh end of the month when all they car about is accumulating as many units per salesperson as possible and are willing to sell at cost. I am glad they made it plain jane and arent selling it basically means in 6 weeks the dealer is going to "lay down" when I am sitting across the desk negotiating price. My 2 cents.

I think the thread would be more helpful if people who have purchased GTO's give the price breakdown and purchase location..IE: Original sticker price - dealer discount - dealer certs - GMAC financing = My price before tax/title..
I would like to have some ammo to use against the dealer (Whom I work for) for bargaining...Just saying "well I read someone got one for $24500" won't help much. -Gabe

If you work there buddy up with one of the sales managers and you'll have a shot at getting the car at dealer cost. I sold BMW's for 8 months at the biggest dealer in Boston, if you are really into cars get a job in sales, if you are good you can usually qualify for ridiculously low employee program leases, howd you like to lease an 05 gto for 2 years for under 200 a month with unlimited mileage and no money down, not saying that you could but BMW had comparable dealsa for salesmen that worked for 1 year and met certain csi and sales criteria. I am sure GM has similar programs. But your best bet is to become good friends with the sales managers.

There are new 2004 GTO's listed on Ebay by dealers for under $25,000 right now. I bought a silver/black A4 from the dealer in Iowa. All paperwork was completed by mail before I left to pick the car up. Everything was smooth and just as promised. Very sharp dealership. Delivery took about 5 minutes. List 33,485 - Dealer discounted to 29,000 - 3500 Rebate - 500 instant value cert = 25,000 - 2000 GM card top-off earnings = 23,000 + 100 paperwork fees= 23,100 financed thru GMAC. Sales tax must be paid on 29,000 here in Kansas ($2044-ouch). The same dealer has a silver/red A4 listed now.

I worked at new car dealerships as a tech for the last 15 years, the best time to buy a new car is now! The last month of the year or the last couple days of the year are the best times to buy. I know you might still get a good deal on a GTO because of the improved model coming out but once word gets around which it already is, the 04 cars will be gone.Just dont wait too long. If I was buying one now I would do it the day or two after xmas. Try more than one dealership and play them off eachother. The more time your willing to put into it the more cash you will save. I got my new Trailblazer right when they cam out for invoice from a dealership I did'nt work for.

Invoice is usually a good deal, but the dealer cost is usually a lot lower, they are still making profit at invoice. I have seen the invoice on the gto online and it is way too close to the msrp, and the rebates are usually an indication that the dealer cost is thousands less than the available invoice price. I'd estimate dealer cost to be in teh neighborhood of $23-24000 on the o4 GTO's. Some dealerships have higher costs for the same models depending on teh track record and rewards from the manufacturer.

They still have 2 yellow m6s left. Both have aftermarket chromed alloys and one has the dual scooped hood. Your choice-24,800. Can't beat that deal. I wasn't really looking to get a goat, but for nearly half price(mine had a sticker of 37k-it had the wheels and other dealer add ons), I couldn't resist.

but with Smartbuy, don't you have to pay the tax upfront, so for a $30,000 (you have to pay tax on the rebates), tax would be $2,400 (8% sales tax). and when you turn in the car at the end of term, you don't get any of that back. With Smartlease, you only pay the tax on the payments.
I am no expert with Smartbuy, I've only done leases so far, so I wonder what advantage there is with Smartbuy. It doesn't seem to make any sense if you don't plan to buy the car at the end of term.
BlueSix
12-14-2004, 09:43 PM
Even on a lease you pay taxes on the full value of the car, it is just figured into the lease. And at the end of the smartbuy if you trade the car in, you get the tax credit on your trade in. You don't get that with a lease.

I just finished talking with a local dealer, his best deal was $31,171 plus ttl then subtract $5000 (rebate). $28,064 out the door, from what I can tell on here, this isn't a great deal. How can I do better? I told the guy a friend of mine did better and he wouldn't budge, just kept telling me he didn't know how (I didn't want to tell him about this place although he probably already knows). Anyway, I just walked out and told him to call me when he wanted to sell a car I knew was going to just sit on his lot thru the winter...any suggestions?

My suggestion is to walk. Find yourself a different dealer. Once this dealer see's that he's losing a sale he will budge. You can get the car for right at 23K plus TTL right now.

Call Vista Ridge Pontiac in Dallas Texas or visit their website at www.vistaridge.com, they have about 40 GTO cars in every color available. Best offer made on Tuesday was $6500 rebate and 0% percent financing, so then my fiance and I give the salesman the green light on getting the purchase started. So Tuesday I should have received a call back from the salesman keeping me informed what was going on since I'm from out of town. No call at all, fiance called next day and was told that GMAC had made a mistake offering both the rebate & 0% financing (I smell BS). That only the GTO's sold that day took advantage of the sale. I thought since we decided to purchase on Tuesday that we should have been able to receive both incentives. So best price made Wednesday was $7,000 off the sticker and the lowest rate would be 2.9%.

I got the rebates and 0.0 financing on my GTO. You can go on that GM site and look up incentives and available financing rates by region. When I took all of this info, plus the actual window sticker(located online with vin#) to my dealer, they were unable to give me any BS. Plus, the GTO they had listed in their newspaper ad listed a vin(required by the paper) so I was actually able to match this vin with the one on the GM site. Armed with all of this info, it was pretty painless to buy the car. At the end of the negotiations, when I dropped my 4k plus GM card rebate on the salesman, the look on his face was priceless.

I had a dealer in town say he would do $24,800 otd..when I asked him how this would play out as a lease, he said the price was only good for a purchase, lease would be different. I told them to call me when they would use the above figure on a lease.

Florida is not the place to get a GTO at these type of prices..I have used legitimate out of state quotes and had the dealers claim they are not....
I got one for about $22,000 including tax. I used the $5,000 rebate from GM, $5046.99 from GM card (I thought they maxed out at $2500, but apparently have a special going on now per the dealership, and when I called, the lady said "you have $5,046.99 to put towards a new GM vehicle in addition to any and all other rebates), and also have access the GM employer pricing, but that was not to be used, instead the dealership called it "Drive-a-way" pricing, which was a couple of thousand. I am leasing it for two years for a total of $4200 (including tax, interest, etc). I am paying this amount up front to save about $700 on interest. So, when you divide the 4200 (actually it will be a little less) by 24 months, its $175 TOTAL per month to drive a new GTO for two years and then return it with no strings attached.

I got a GM card flyer in the mail yesterday saying they would top off my earnings to $750, plus the GTO had an additional $3000, coming to $3750 in GM card savings. This, combined with GMS and $1000 GM employee discount....gives me a price of $19981 plus TT&L on the black 04 on the lot. Too bad I STILL can't afford it since I already bought an 04 Silverado this year. Oh well, I'll look for a used one in a couple years to use as a daily driver.

Damn I wanna find one in Northern California for some of these prices :( . I was at the dealer yesterday and quoted $27,900 for a 04' and $30,979 after employee discount.....MSRP $34,000. So are there better deals out there? Said they would give us $1500-2000k under BB for our trade in.
