Azeal Appeal: Nissan takes new look at 'pocket rocket' with Azeal Detroit show concept

Nissan says the Azeal concept that will be at the Detroit auto show next month is a fresh look at the "pocket rocket" high-performance small car segment.

This sketch of the concept gives the impression that the Azeal could also be called the "Mini Z," with similarities in the roof line and fenders to Nissan's 350Z sports car.

The Azeal is the first concept created at the design studio in Nissan's technical center in Farmington Hills, Mich.

The automaker is searching for a successor to the Sentra that has more emotional appeal. The Sentra is scheduled to be redesigned for either the 2006 or 2007 model year.
Twould be cool if they made a RWD Sentra, called the 4-door a Sentra and the 2-door a 240SX.....

Looks cool but reminds me of an Audi TT with some straight lines.

Don't tease me. A 250SX would be awesome and make a nice successor to the S14 240SX we got in the states and the JDM S15 Silvia which died around the same time the R34 Skyline was replaced with the V35 series cars. I was always a fan of the Silvia/240 and the 180/200/240 Hatch cars. People often refer to them as Nissan's (and in some cases, Japan's) F-Body. Couldn't agree more. Great performance (in JDM tune), terrible practicality. I like. A successor with better ergonomics would be very welcome. Nissan is on a roll yet again with this idea.

Yea Nissan is coming out of it's "Mitsubishi years". FWIW the 240 has always been one of my favorite Japanese cars, and I would love to see them make a modern version of it now that they're on their feet again and Japanses performance is a hit amongst the kiddies.

Hehe, not just the kiddies too. Everyone wants a piece of the Japanese performance car pie. Even domestic manufacturers are trying to emulate them in some aspects. Good times.

Might be fun to bang around in one of those. Looks pretty good.

Ok judging from that second set of pics, this will definitely not be a successor to the S15 Silvia since that mag talks about that car being FWD with the possibility of AWD. FWD a Silvia is NOT. No drift-o-rama with one of those. At least they've come up with the Azeal moniker as applying Silvia/240SX/180SX/200SX to a FWD vehicle is just as bad as Chevy applying Impala to its current unattractive W-Body.
