Count 'em. Eight turbos! Surely, there are legitimate virtues of multiple-turbo arrangements, namely dividends in responsiveness and low-end grunt. In the mid-'90s, cars such as the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, Porsche 993 Turbo, Toyota Supra, and Mazda RX-7 utilized this philosophy successfully, but come on, those were OE applications with girly displacement. Our redneck-sized V-8s can easily spool single 88mm turbos, good for over 1,000 hp, quickly enough to deliver near-uncontrollable off-idle torque. So what's the point of cramming in eight turbos and the accompanying pipe organ of convoluted tubing to get it all to work? Simple: It's all about image.
