Shaft mounted rockers are more rigid and have better valve timing. They are mounted all on a single shaft which helps keep them perfectly in line, rather than each being mounted on a individual stud.. They are really neccesary over 7,000 rpm or in high stress engines.

not trying to be a dick head or anything like that.. just curious as to why you are wanting to build such a big hp/tq motor and you don't really seem to know that much about engine setups. everybody has to start somewhere, but dont get in over your head right off the bat ya know.

perhaps he just wants to do it right the first time like we all wanted to but never seemed to. or, i can speak for myself at least, that this is not my first engine and hope that this is finally going to be the one i get right. besides, honestly, i don't know much about them myself!

Unless you happen to have a BBC in which case you'll have 2 shafts ... one for intakes and one for exhausts ;)

I definately commend him for his efforts to get info on his setup and parts that he would like to use. I wish him the best of luck in this hobby. I know that when I came into this stuff I had no idea what I was doing. But, I did things a little at a time and I've got the best guy in the world to get info and help from so that has helped me alot over the past few years. Hell I learn something new every day. Just don't get in to far over your head because it will cause you alot of problems down the road. A good friend of mine was talked into spending alot of money on a VERY FAST setup for his mustang. He has spent around 12-13k dollars on this stang and now the guy that talked him into it all is nowhere to be found. Now my friend has no idea what he's gonna do with the car. No place to put it, no garage, no tools, and most of all.. No Experience! So, now I'm the one that gets to work on it.. :bang:

LOL....that's the way it works out. my deal is that i got use to the 480 fwhp that my vert put out the first time i got on it. to say i was dissapointed would be an understatement. i am possibly going to do this in a step by step kind of deal. the motor i bought is a 427 sbc that puts out about 650hp as it sits. before it goes in my car however, i will be putting in a custom turbo cam and a set of turbo headers so i will have a head start when i have the cash for the turbo's and the rest of the system without pulling the motor to do it....swap cams then that is. so i hope the motor will make at least 500-550hp at the flywheel with the current 10.5:1CR. this power, combined with a car that should be about 400-600 lbs. lighter than my convertible, will help me to adjust to the new power, as well as a new car without the threat of getting into too much trouble if it gets a bit squirly. or at least compared to the 1200+hp i will ultimately be making. then, i when finances allow, i will have the turbo system built and installed. that will likely bring me up to 850-900hp on pump gas and then i can get use to that......maybe. then, when the entire car is ready, and finances allow the final step, i will have the motor freshened, heads ported, and the CR brought down to a more turbo friendly CR, and go for the full 1200hp on pump gas goal i have in mind, and as far as i dare to take it on race fuel and hopefully by then have enough knowledge and experience to contol that kind of power and be able to work on it too.
