Automotive News, Media & Press - GM to buy Ferrari...and some other companies too.

Becuase I really don't care about Fiat, Alpha Romeo and Maseratti, Ferrari is the only gem in the Fiat crown of interest to me. At any rate, developing story on Detroit news, GM may be found in breach of contract with Fiat which requires GM to buy out the remaining 49% stake in the company which would make Fiat wholey owned division...

Wow, I can't even begin to fathom what it would do to the Ferrari image to be associated with GM.....hmmm..

Looks like I mispoke myself, the dealis for Fiat Auto group which includes Fiat, Lancia and Alpha Romeo. Ferrari and Maserati are held under a seperate holding.

I was about to say. Thank God too as only he knows what would happen to Ferrari if GM got its hands on the marque. The only brand of interest to me out of Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo is Alfa. They actually have a great line of products and some decent projects in the pipe that actually stir interest and emotion. However if GM is forced to purchase the remaining 49% of Fiat AG me wonders how they'll market Alfa in the states what with its lineup being so similar to Saabs.

I would love to get some Alfa Romeo small cars coming out in the states. Or even some Fiats again.

Didn't Chysler own Ferrari at one point though?

Lutz are you reading this? Import the new Superamerica and rebadge it as a Firebird! :) If a Monaro can be turned into a GTO, then how hard could it be to rebadge the new GM Ferrari Superamerica as a Firebird? :)

I'd even settle for cloth seats in place of Italian leather.

No I don't think so. Back in the day Ford tryed to buy them out, and the deal was actually going to go down. Ferrari backed out however, and Ford built the GT40 and whooped up on the Ferraris instead.

Maybe it was Lambo then?

I'd even settle for cloth seats in place of Italian leather. Lutz has already proven he could care less about the Camaro or Firebird community. Ford is gonna smear 'em and this comes from a die-hard chevy fan, sadly.http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_sad.gif

I could just imagine the terrible scenario...

At the 2007 auto show, a new Ferrari is debuted, with stunning looks and a 3.8 liter V8 engine. It is to become a lower level entry car to the F430.

In 2008, the concept becomes the Ferrari "Chaser", a front wheel drive 4 door based on the Malibu Maxx chasis. The sport version gets a supercharged 3.8 liter V6. It goes on sale with a pricetag of $90,000 dollars.

I don't see that ever happening (Ferrari even thinking about selling out to GM). Ferrari and GM are in two completely different worlds. I don't even think GM could even handle Ferrari's shoes. Ferrari has thumbed their nose at bigger fish. They're responsible for Lamborghini coming to light. Enzo told Ferrucio Lamborghini that he doesn't cater to peasants, when Mr. Lamborghini went to buy his first Ferrari and have certain custom features performed on his new buy, at the factory where it was to be built. That's all he needed to hear. He went off and created a name for himself (Lamborghini). Even Carroll Shelby said that Enzo Ferrari's a first class as*hole. Enzo's wife has been known to throw fits and slap their team drivers in the face. Also the Ferrrari F1 team is known for their mucho paranoia and Nazi like regimentation.

Yes, Chrysler owned Lambo, and they are teh ones who started the v10 development for Lambo. Then it was sold to an Asian holding company, almost went under, and now VW owns them, which is why Lambos are actually confortable cars you can truly drive now
