Well, the stock Monsoon HU took a dump, so I replaced it with a new Alpine unit. I wired it up using the Metra 70-1858 wiring harness and everything went well, except for the rear seat subs no longer work. I have tried playing with the bass levels on the HU and also the low pass freq settings. Still nothing. Any suggestions? This is on a 98 Camaro with the monsoon system. Thanks for any info.....

I am pretty sure you lose the use of the subs with the wiring kit. However, I did read somewhere about someone hacking the harness to get them to work. Now if I could only remember where. :/
And, someone correct me if I am wrong, the Camaro is wired differently than the Firebird and I think it's a Bird that had the subs working.

Crap, that's what I was afraid of. Looks like I'll be buying an amp sooner than I thought. Time to re-wire.

I just replaced my head unit and put an amp and sub in right away. If you're on a budget, you don't need to spend mucho bucks. Remember, almost anything you buy will be better than what you had.
Since the amp and sub will be kept in the back (usually) the only wires you have to really mess with are power and RCAs. Ground can be in the back. Get a small enough amp and you can mount it behind the spare tire cover (lots of room really) and hide it. You can also ground in there.
Go to www.fbodyaudio.com and go to the tech section. One of the "FAQs" tells you how to get the power wire through the firewall.
