Im not much of a stereo guy, i really dont car that i dont have the best sounding system. I just want something that work good not great. I blew out a couple of speakers in my SS. At first i was gonna just replace everything then i got worried that my ASP pulley would cause charging problems. Then i decided that im just gonna upgrade the monsoon system like in Rogue Leader's sticky. Then i started to thinK again. Will an aftermarked headunit, with a small amp (<200 watts) and a 12 inch sub actually use more juice then what i have in the car now? My other idea was putting the 500 watt monsoon amp in my car but i dont know a) if it will work and b) if it is worth it cuz it will draw just as much as an after market one.

Well, almost anybody on here will tell you not to bother putting in the Monsoon amp. Putting in a good head unit with a small amp and a solo sub would be a good start, and I don't think you'd need to be too worried about any charging issues. I have ran quite a few full systems off of stock charging systems with no problems, so I doubt that you would see any issues even with your ASP. I'm not an expert on this, but I just don't see it causing any problems...

What is your idle right now? Does your Voltmeter indicate a lack of charge? If not you shuld be fine. Most of the time with an underdrive pulley, you have to up the rpm's to get a full charge. If you are in the green right now, you'll be fine. With that cam our idle is probably around 800-900 correct?

My idle now is 900 and at idle it is charging at only very slightly above 13 volts. What im afraid of is that with my 93 lt1 when i put my system in, it was drawing so much from my alternator that the car ran like utter dog shit from not enough amps to make a spark when the lights and the fans where on. Now im sure it was that the alternator was tired as well, but i dont want to take any chances.

I don't think you will have the same problems. I believe the ASP with alt overdrive pulley is around 950-1100 for full charge. I'll look it up on their website to get better info.
From what it sounds like, you are looking for better than stock and to add a sub and amp. I'd get a good head unit to run the stock locations, and then add a smallish Class D amlifier for the sub. The class D design is extremely efficient and won't draw alot of current. Perfect fot what you are looking for. Figure up to 500 watts and you'll be fine.
Figure Rms amprage draw for a 500watt Class D am to be around 45 amps. Figure 1/2 for a 250-300watt amp. 250 is plenty for say 1-10" sub. 500 plenty for 2-12's.
The current draw will be in spurts and won't hurt the charging system if you add a cap and upgrade the Alternator wire and the vehicle ground.
