Stereo & Electronics - I have a lot of static coming from my stereo, need help!

I have a Pioneer 6600DVD and have had it installed a couple of months now with no problems. All of the sudden the unit is losing power and there is a lot of static in the speakers even when the volume is all the way down. I pulled the unit out and everytime I moved it the static would either get worse or better, it wouldn't go away and the unit would still continue to lose power. What is my problem?

Sounds like a bad ground to me but that's just a guess.

Does it do it playing a CD as well?

Yes it does it even when a cd is playing. It never stops.

Questions...

Is the static steady? Meaning, one steady hum or does it vary?

Does it change when you hit bumps?

Does it vary with engine RPM?

It changes when I move the stereo. Its so bad that I left the stereo off while driving.

I just had a h/c swap done this weekend. Could that be what caused whatever the problem is?

I am confused though. If it only does it when the stereo moves, is your stereo not mounted well? It should not move while you're driving.

You mean you had heads and cam put in?

Did you double check the power wire for your stereo to make sure it's back on tightly?

I pulled the unit out and everytime I moved it the static would either get a little better or a little worse. Yes I double checked everything to make sure it was hooked up correctly. Yes I just had a heads and cam swap done.

I doubt that had anything to do with it unless they scraped a wire or left one hanging against something hot.

Well, now that I think of it... if they yanked something from the firewall and it scraped some of the plastic coating off a wire, that could do it.

if you can get the problem to happen by moving the HU, try to jiggle wires individually (behind the HU). That should help isolate the problem. It happens all too often that it's a bad connection, and unfortunately grounds get underestimated. Don't know how h/c would affect this, but I wouldn't totally rule it out. Wouldn't start there, but wouldn't rule it out if the above suggestion doesn't fix it. Hell, could it be a bad deck? Try jiggling the whole HU. Keep us posted, I'm kinda curious.

ONce again, its the factory ground. TRY this, run power and ground leads straight to the battery with some long wires and see if it fixes ur problem, Id be willing to be 9-1 odds it would fix it.............. Ive been lazy and have the same problem, took me a whole 2 hours to find out what it was, i checked amp rca inputs, deck preouts, rca's power, and ground leads for amps (<could be this too) and found the culperate to be a very weak ground.
