Stereo & Electronics - This amp I bought is more of a beast then I expected...can I still use it?

I am in the process of buying a full system for my car. I have 3 MTX 10's and I am going to use those but I didn't have an amp for them. After looking at a lot of amps I finally decided on the HiFonics BX1500D because I got a great deal on it. I was told the amp had a single 50 amp fuse. Well, I get the thing in the mail and it has two 60 amp fuses! :eek2: I also have a 55x4 Alpine amp that I think has a 30 or 40 amp fuse. Can I run these two amps or will it be way too much of a draw on the alternator? I priced a 200 amp alternator at $300 and I'd like to avoid that cost. Any suggestions? Should I try it on the stock charging system?

At one time, I had six amplifiers and associated equipment on a stock (63 amp) alternator, with no problems. The draw from the amplifiers only reaches peak for an instant, and that's only when the volume's all the way up and there's a bass-hit or something.

Your stock alternator will be fine.

and if stock alt. does die a new one with double the amps will only cost $20-25 more than the original. it will just have twice asa many coils.

It will be OK. My SPL car actually got away on the Stock Alt for about a month until it Pooped and I was really stressing out my system.

2 things not to do:

1.) NO second batteries. This is a larger load for an Alt. than the Amp. (usually)

2.) Don't Blast the System too Much, or Play test tones. Music that is a heavy consistant beat or drone tend to draw alot more current. Rap music that is not puchy, but a heavy, low, long beat will drop the voltage in your system alot.

Add some Good Capacitance. This will help with Current Draw and the Spikes that will occure. Depending an the use, You are going to want 2-3 Farads to start out. Once you get some help on the Electrical System you can use the Amp more.
