Ok, i decided to sell me truck and buy a 3rd gen. It's an 89 RS. With a good TH350 and a 3.73 gear with the following motor, what is the fastest ya'll think i could run in the 1/8?
350 block
10.5 compression
Bowtie heads, ported- should flow around 330cfm
comp cams 292/292 501/501
1.65 roller rockers (valve lift-550)
performer RPM air gap
1 5/8 headers into true dual 3" flows
125 wet shot
by the way- the car will have front seats and nothing else, totally gutted.
thanks

i'll say high 7s on motor,7.0s on jug.weight of car should be alittle less than 3000 lbs.

machinist is saying near 550 at the crank w/o juice those heads are NICE, they came off of a N/A 406 that ran 5.60s in the 1/8 in a 3000+lbs nova

that cam seems small for 550 hp .i ran 7.20s with a flat top 406 with the nascar style bowtie heads in a 3250 lb 85 bird, but had a sr ,.575 lift cam.if you plan for 500+hp i would get the 1 3/4 super comps. what size stall you plan on running=3500- 4000?

probably a 3600-3800 stall, the heads have been flowed, but dumbass me hasn't gone to see or pickup the flow chart. i am runnin flattops, but the heads are 58cc so it's close to 11:1. like i posted in another thread, the heads came off of a 3200lbs nova with a N/A 406 that ran 5.70s, so i know they are good heads. also thinkin about switching to a victor jr intake. i might actually run a 3.42 gear because i'll drive/race it on the street from time to time, and if i keep it to 6500rpm it looks like i'll be toppin out around 130 with the 3.73. but i'm not sure. if i totally gut the car- no heater, back seats, gas tank, carpet, door panels etc, what could i get the weight down to?
ps- i see you answered that already.
i also see i posted the nova thing twice- sorry.

when i weighed mine here is what i had removed or added=heater removed courtesy of sledge hammer,no radio, carpet removed from back of back seat back, glasstek hood=not too light i might add, aluminum heads, pro star wheels, and a 9 inch rear.you could get car down to 2900-3000 fairly easy.

dude not to steal your thunder but a 406 using conventional heads is not going to run 5.70's in a 3200lb car.

That sounds like the EXACT motor I had in my Olds, but I had a Victor Jr. intake with a 750 Demon carb. The car weighed 3500 lbs without me in it, and ran a best of 12.1x on motor and 11.6x on the spray, with a M/T 29x15.5 sportsman pro tire and a 4.56 gear. I would expect simillar times with your car. I did run 1 7/8 Hooker Super comp headers which picked the car up almost 2 tenths over 1 5/8 headers. Trans and converter, gear, tire, are all really going to be the determining factors. I agree that ANY GM factory heads are not going to run 5.6x in the 1/8 on anything. I had Dart heads which out of the box are better than even the BEST port job on a Factory head. I would expect this motor to make around 425hp on the motor. Also, I had Comp 1.6 rockers which brought the lift to .534. It sounds like a mid to high 11 second car (in the quarter) assuming you have the right tire/gear/trans/converter combo.

This is true. Heads and direct port spray setup would be a different story.

even then at 3200lbs he'd have to make 850 900hp to run that number

Are you running the new Vortec Bowtie heads?

no, not vortec. it is possible he was running spray, i was told N/A but he might have just meant no supercharger. and this is not coming from the man selling them to me, it was my friend's dad and my friend who saw him run. the car ran 5.60s, but whether he sprayed it or not i cannot for sure say. flow chart is back, i was way off, but they flowed well.

they flow really well on lower lifts then peak. oh well, still great compared to stock bowtie 034s which flow around 230 tops.
one more thing, going for the 305H cam instead- it'll be at .560 lift with 1.6 rockers. maybe i got too excited. hell, it it runs 7.50s on spray i'll be happy- i mean let's be honest, that's fast- i'll have maybe $5000 in the car- about $1000 of which is machine work fixing what i blew up. plus i figure i'm 18, i've got tons of time to dump more money into it (ehem. . . turbos), and the fastest i've run in the 1/8th before is 10.83, so that'll definitely feel VERY fast to me. 7.50s could put me like mid-high 11s in the 1/4, right?
