It's not a Cadillac rip-off.

The cues are directly from the old 427 concept car and are applied to the Mazda 6, which is what the Fusion is under the skin. Cool looking car inside and out if you ask me, I can't wait to see what SVT does with it.

Sorry to run the numbers on you, but while I think it looks alright, it's quite possible ford stole some of the styling cues :).
BTW: At the time Ford released the 427 concept, Cadillac trumped it with the Sixteen concept, neither of which will ever be produced, but the Sixteen easily beats the 427.

Yah well the production V35 Skyline (Infiniti G35) debuted on June 18 2001.

Looking at both cars one can see that the CTS easily appears to be a more creased G35. Granted Caddy decided to go with it's art and science theme back in 99 or 2000 or so, but the front end ot the CTS does resemble the G35 to some extent. If anything GM ripped off Nissan. Not surprising when you look at some of their other designs. The SS Concept was a blatant rip off of the Mazda RX-8, the rear end of the LaCrosse and the G6 are obvious Scion TC rip offs, The appearance package on the Impala makes the rear end look like an R33 Skyline etc... Honestly in this day and age it's hard to come up with designs that don't resemble competitors products in at least a few ways. Well unless we're talking about Daimler-Chrysler of course.

The caddy was out earlier than the g35 sedan.

1. The CTS and G35 look nothing like each other.
2. The Ford Fusion looks like an ugly CTS with Ford emblems.

Umm, the G35 debuted in mid 2001 in Japan as the V35 Skyline. The CTS was introduced in 2002 for the 2003 model year. Even the first U.S. spec G35 was built on March 12, 2002. Regardless of whether that date came before the CTSs debut in 2002, the V35 Skyline's June 18, 2001 debut came before them all.

Regardless, 1. The CTS and G35 look nothing like each other.Besides, If you look at this article, http://www.cardesignnews.com/news/2001/010731cad-cts/, it was written 7/31/01. There was no where near enough time for Caddy to have changed it to "look like" the G35. Besides, as this article points out, the CTS's appearance was derived from the Evoq (1999) and the Vizon (2001) concepts seen below.

Hopefully this will put this arguement to bed for good. We could go on argueing that because they both have 2 headlights and 4 wheels they are ripoffs of the 1906 Olsmobile Model S :).

I like how the Fusion is shaping up. Good to see it in Nascar too.

I hope all the Ford teams leave the big fake grille decal on their Nascar version. Since they've "enlarged it to show detail", it looks like the F-250 grille. :)

No, its not a rip off, but it is blocky and ugly like the CTS. :barf:
And the G35 is what the CTS should have looked like. That "Art & Science" look only worked on the XLR and the SRX.

Saw this thing on the last Nascar race as a sideline preview . Kinda curious , is the Taurus officially dead or just out of racing?

Thank God GM doesn't steal designs and styling cues.
Oh yeah...I guess I forgot about the C6 being a ripoff of the Viper.
