Since I've had my car, I've had a problem where the car surges a little on cold start. It's bone stock internally, and at the time it only had a lid and catback. This sorts itself out, but it was severe enough that I could see the lighting in the gauges fade as the idle dropped and brighten back up when the idle corrected itself. It's even more noticeable if it's a cold start at night, where you can see the headlights dim and then come back. Is this normal? If not, what could be causing the problem, and how would I go about correcting it? The car now has headers, true duals, and a tune.
The second problem I'm having is with the tach. It's just happened recently, but there have been a couple of weird things - when I was on a long trip, the tach would kind of jump around within a couple of hundred RPM while the engine was actually held at a stable RPM. The CD player would often skip in conjunction with this, which leads me to believe it's the same sort of surging electrical issue. The volt meter didn't dip or anything when it was happening though :(
The problem with the tach that I observed this afternoon was that the tach was WAY ahead of the engine when I was at WOT - under a second or third gear WOT run, the tach would go all the way to the top and then "bounce" back to 5K or so and seem to advance normally from there. My shift light seems to be unaffected by it though, as it still functioned at the correct RPM. :eek2:
I'm just getting frustrated with all the electrical problems with the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
