I am interested in doing a BBC project in just a little while, but what I want to know is if I should just go through a local shop as far as building it up from scratch (anyone know of a good place in SW Michigan?) or are there any places that sell more aggresive short or longblock setups for BBCs, kind of like how there are a billion places that sell LSX setups, GMPP perfromance crate engines just don't do it for me. Please post any places you know of or your opinions on what I should do. Currently planning on 502 stroked to 540, with some nice heads, and EFI. Also what manual trans are you BBC guys running?
Thanks,
Jim

You can check www.racingjunk.com , there are quite a few shops on there selling many different combinations of long-blocks, also you can contact that shop and they will basically build you whatever you want. I believe I saw a completely forged assym. 540" bottom end for $3200.00. What sort of vehicle is this going into? Is it going to be driven on the street, or is it a drag car? More information is needed for a tranny suggestion. For the street I would go with a th400. For race, def. the powerglide.
edit- oops I just saw that you were wondering what kind of manual tranny!! My bad, I would suggest the Super T-10 for a 4-speed. I've got a buddy that runs one in his show truck, and it's nice for street performance.

Year One sells the Bill Mitchell 540 CID and 632 CID big blocks. We used the 540 in our 67 Chevelle a couple of years ago. It runs really good, both on the highway and at the drag strip. We're taking it on Hot Rod Magazine's Drag Week this year.
