Can anyone build me a bad forced induction, preferabely turbo'd or TT'd chevy to fit in a 71 vette? I would like a 383 stroker and bigger, the cheapest as possible while not sacrificing durablilty. Can be blown or superchraged, but this will be a daily driver with me putting at least 100 miles on a week.

I also need opinions on what to do with the rest of my car to turn it into a sleeper and handle all of that power:) Thanks,

Putting down a location (state and city) might help you out for shops around your area to chime in on quotes. You might also want to be a little more descriptive on how much power you want to make, as the parts used in the build-up can vary a bit depending on the rpm range, intended use and want you want from the package (example carb'd or F.I., heads-aluminum or iron, rotating assembly, etc etc). I spent close to 6 grand on my 383 stroker combo but adding in the headers, exhaust and nitrous system put me close to the 7 grand mark, if that helps.

You want a complete Gen. 1 motor with turbos and everything? Set up and ready to drop in?

Yes whatever will work in the Vette. Preferably a complete drop in with Twin turbos. Thats what I am looking for, can I get it fro under $7,000? Thanks, and should I go TH400 or TH350? Do I need to upgrade the drive shaft? Thanks,

I think it would be tough to find a NEW motor all set up and ready to go that would be adequate to hold up to twins. Fuel injected or carb. Plus, if you're talking about intercooling, that car is specific and would require fabrication to get an IC in there. If you wanted a non-intercooled setup, I would probably sell the complete motor and twins out of my car. I have about $7,000 in parts and everything even shopping around. I'm negotiable on price.

Ya I think ur SOL tryin to find a new motor for that price. But a used setup like NOS john state you may be able to find but anything SPECIFIC for your car.

My suggestion for you would be to start buying parts slowly piece by piece, dont try and jump head first into a serious motor build like this with a budget...Remember winter is around the corner so in about 2 months u will have ample time to get this done.. btw pm me for details I have a shop and could build you whatever combo you desire..

where are you?
if your looking for all new, your not going to get much. but pick up a used LS1 complete, buy all the turbo parts you need, new or used, do some research on what you want. you should be able to find a complete LS1 for around $2k
and al your turbo parts for around the same. then whatever you cant do yourself pay someone.

Now Thats Funny!!!!

Hell, you'll be lucky to get 2 turbos plumbed, tuned and intercooled for 7k!!!!

Not to mention the rock solid bottom end you'll need.

NOSJOHN I would be intrested in your setup, how many miles? How much horses? Would it drop right in? And the bottom line, how much? Would you want to trade for anything? I has a SS with a lot of extra performance parts I just bought and haven't added. I am about to sell the SS for money to make my vette a monster. Thanks,

NOSJOHN you have a new pm:) Can anyone tell me what I need to make this car a street sleeper that runs 10's? I would also like to know what a good auto tranny would be to stick in here because I am more comfortable with an auto, I will buy a used one, I have a M21 to trade plus some cash, this tranny was just rebuilt:) Thanks.

About 650-700 HP at the flywheel.

Depends on your setup, a stock susp. car will prolly like a 'Glide better, less violent on the launch.

I would build a solid 406, and put a blow-thru centrifical on it, but the 7K limit may need to be bumped a bit.

I'll sell ya a turnkey N/A 406 that'll run 10's on pump gas for half that price.

Hals73RS, send me the specs on your engine and price. Also where are you located? I really like the sound of NOSJOHN's setup and the price is around what i am looking for so I might just get his setup.

This car will be a daily driver driven around 200 miles a week so what would be the best for that. I am not worried about how hard it launches on the street, I want it to be fast while still being able to let my girlfriend drive it without making her cry:)

How about a TH400 with a 3200 stall? Does that sound good? Do I need to upgrade driveshafts? What is the price I am looking at for a good TH400? Thanks/

I also have a TH350 that is behind the motor and was built to handle 600hp easy. It has a 10" TCI converter w/ the nitrous anti-balloon plate. ;) I am one stop shopping. :jest:

Wow NoSJOHN you really are send me the price for that as well. Will the tranny handle the motor? I imagine it will because it is bolted to it, also what is the stall? Thanks NOSJOHN. When will you be on aim?

John's combo may be the better one for you. Mine isn't what I would consider a daily driver. It is driven now on the street but not much. Although with a little smaller cam it would be extremely streetable. But for the hell of it, here's the combo.

406 SBC
ARP studded throughout
Eagle 3.75 cast steel crank
Eagle 6' "H" rods
JE flat top pistons 11.25 compression
Chet Herbert solid roller 250/255 duration, 600/620 lift 106 LSA
Crane roller lifters
Manley pushrods
Canfield 195cc ported aluminum heads 2.05/1.60 valves
Canfield stud girdle
Comp Cams Magnum rockers
Weiand Team G ported intake
Holley 750 DP with Proform main body 830 CFM
Mallory Comp 9000 dist
Mallory Sidewinder wires
Mallory Promaster coil
Accel 300+ ignition box
Weiand aluminum water pump
March alt brackets
Summit aluminum pulleys
Summit SFI damper

This combo is in my full weight 73 Camaro. Connected to a TH350 with 3800 stall through a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears. Race weight 3520#. It's best time is 6.86 @ 99 on pump gas N/A. I'll sell everything, flexplate to water pump, carb to oil pan for $3800...... It was freshend last winter.

With a little smaller cam and some NOS it'll still run low 10's in whatever you put it in.

I'm building an LS1....

I live in MS. holla

Hal you have a pm, and I have a question. What will it cost me to get someone to swap an engine and tranny? Where can I get it done cheap around Dallas, TX?? Thanks.

I think you may need to do something with the rear end if you are considering putting that much motor in that car. With any hook at all, one of them axles will be coming out.

O.K., multiply that times 2, then do all the management, I'm good but wouldn't have the skills to do the tune.

Not to mention the guy asking was looking for some to install as well.

I'm sure you did your own fabrication, right?

pwrtrip75
08-12-2005, 04:30 PM
yes i built it all, but you can make some shortcuts here and there. use a 6.0L or 5.3L , also use exhaust manifolds reversed if possible. you can find an engine w/ pcm & harness for around $1k (mine was $500 from LKQ on ebay) all your turbo parts figure 2 turbos-$1000(on the high side) wastegates-$500. intercooler & BOV aprox $500. fuel system w/ regulator & bigger injectors around $1000.
thats $4000 for pretty much the big things you need and a little on the high side on a few things, perhaps used parts would be alot cheaper.

that leaves $3000 to play with. save $500 to have it tuned.
ok, there wouldnt be a whole lot of fabrication w/ 2 turbos off of manifolds. so $500. should well cover all materials, flanges, exhaust parts, and intake piping.

So all said that leaves $2000. for labor to find someone who will do it. Your average exotic speed shop might not do it for that?, but theres alot of capable people that would.

I may have forgotten some small details, maybe it sounds crazy, but i think for $7000. and some homework you can do it.

I agree totally with PWRTRIP75.

You guys are assuming he wants to build a EFI LS1. I haven't seen anywhere where he has said in stone that that's what he wants.

You can build a carb'd, streetable, strong 350-406ci for half that from the ground up. If you can't get a builtproof/stalled TH350/400 for 1k or less, something's wrong. Hell I know people around here that'd drop all that in the car and wire it up for just a few bills if the guy didn't want to do the work himself.

But if he's looking to do ANYTHING with EFI he's already over the limit...

All I need is the intake manifold with the machined bungs for the fuel injectors, the fuel injectors, fuel rails, and oh yeah, the actual TT setup;) I have already spent close to $4,500 for all of the parts I have now though.
