How many of you all still use your detector in DC or VA?

I hate getting over the bridge and having to unplug it and hide it.

I used to drive through there all the time when I lived in South Carolina, and traveled back and forth to VT. I never unplugged it & never had a problem.

i didnt think i would, but i was just wondering if anyone else was running it. What is the fine? i figure if its less than a speeding ticket its worth running anyway.

"Breaker 1-9, can I get a radio check?"

"Loud 'n clear!"

"Thank ya sir, can I get yre 20?"

"Yeah, yardstick XX"

"Leave anything behind you?"

"Nope, hammer it down"

"10-4, you're clear to XX too."

"Roger that, thanks!"

I am not sure of the fine, but I am 100% sure that they confiscate your equipment and you dont get it back. At least my buddies that had them in high school all got them taken away.

The have radar detector detectors that will actually tell them if you are using a radar detector

There's a radar/laser jammar that also jam's the radar detector detector, illegal in 8 states already. I'd get one of those bad boy's, the cop's shit strait don't work when that's on, buddy of mine got one, went right by a cop with radar goign 80 in a 50, cop was staring at us going by, pointing the gun.... then pulled out and followed him for about 8 miles, messing with teh gun in teh car several times.. never did pull him over.

Can they tell exactly which car as one. I have a v1 so detector detector detection is slightly less of a problem as long as VA's state police arent rich.

the detector detector they use is called vg2..I think. Most cobra detectors have a vg2 blocker built in. Its works too. i got hit by a cop that I think saw my detector but he couldnt read it and didnt pull me over.

Whats the name of the jammer?

I can't remember.. I think it was called the phazer, I hear ad's ofr it on the radio here in CT all the time, next time I hear it, I'll write down the phone # and post it up that you need to order one.

Yeah I'm curious what Jammer, Legal for sale, actually works. It better have been a Homebuilt because the FCC doesn't allow Jammers to work that well. They can be built, but they need to be alot more powerful than any I've ever seen on the market.

BTW, I work on Miltary Freq jamming equipment so I'm sure I'm one of the few experts here on this subject.

If you have a V1, you should be great when it comes to VG2 detection. The other suggestion is to Mount it up higher out of site. If you get pulled over, they can not confiscate it just for mearly having it from the last I checked. Maybe that was if you are driving thru or not from that state.

I know that the military is alot like VA/DC in that we cannot USE a Radar detector. We are allowed to posses one if we are in a state that allows use of them.

Shit. This could be canada. They are Way strick on the use of a Radar detector. They Fine you $500 and SMASH the Radar detector on site.

After you buy a Phazer, call me - I have some land to sell you (after the tide goes out) :)

The Phazer DOES NOT work as a radar jammer. There are only two kinds of jammers - passive and active. Passive jammers are legal but unless you are the US government you can't afford one that works. Active jammers are very, very illegal to build, sell, possess, or use. They come under the jurisdiction of the FCC because they emit microwave signals and the FCC is not an agency to mess with. So the Phazer is not an active jammer. And it doesn't work, either.

When I used to drive thru VA (and at the time CT) I just put the detector in dark mode (no lights just sound for an alert) never had a cop figure out I had one, I mount mine above the rear view mirror, you can see it if you're behind and the alert lights go on, but otherwise you'd have to be looking awfully hard for it.
And the others are correct on the phazer, doesn't work worth a shit (been tested in several mags, and found utterly ineffective)

Mine is up by the mirror and from the front of the car it is invisible, from the back at night you can really only see it at a certain height. My side and hatch windows are tinted so you cant see it from the side either. The only way a cop can see it is if he is directly beside the front windshield, and even then i have it hard wired through the headliner so it would be hard to tell. I just thought they may have some shit that detects them easily.

What about CT? There not illegal there although my detector is useless on i-95 in connecticut because of those things they have on tall ass poles that make the detector go off every 2 miles.

Yeah, just like deer whistles - my UFO whistle must work pretty good because I've never been abducted by a UFO (that I remember).

Ive never seen a car radar jammer that works either

I would like to see a Commercial Jammer that would work. I'd buy it. But they just don't. th e AN/TLQ-17 is a military ground based jammer that I work on. One of a couple. The Receiver wouldn't fit in our hatch. The PA would, but weigh's in at 259 LBS, The 110 vAC to 400 vAC 400 HZ invertor wouldn't fit in our cars. Oh yeah. Then there is an antenna and coupler that needs to handle the 100-700 watts output.

This wattage amount is WAY different then what car amps put out. Figure a good of-hand comparison, would be around 50K-100,000 watts. So, find me a jammer that works like this does.

it will be interesting on the 06 Power Tour cause it goes thru VA, and you know that quite a few ppl on the tour will have a detector(i have one). and feining ignorance to the law is not an excuse in the eyes of the law

One problem with VA is that alot of the state uses VASCAR by air. So radar detectors ain't shit on the roads you really want to speed on. I remember traveling to Vtech and there was nothing but about 100-150 miles of straight smooth pavement with the occasional trucker for a while. The road was lined with "Speed enforced by aircraft" signs so we pretty much didnt go past 70 for the majority of the trip.

i saw hundreds of those signs in AZ, NM, and CA on my last trip. i did go past 75, plenty of times. i guess in VA on the PT, Ill just take it easy

Believe me, you will know when they run the detection from the air. They fly in either a small single prop plane directly over the highway, or off to the side a little bit. I have also seen them using a police helicopter during holiday travel. Now, this is along the I81 coriddor that I am talking about. Also, it is rare that they even do it. It is my understanding that they only have about 8 or so of the planes, and they stay mainly in the more popluated areas. You can hold 80 plus no problem on 81 as long as you avoid the staties in the medians.

I used to drive from MD to RU in VA all the time, 5 hr drive (3 1/2 on my best run) one way. Never had a problem with getting pulled over on I81 either. Tho I didn't speed in Botetourt (bot-a-tot) County either as they seemed to have the most ticket thirsty cops all along the interstate. The only thing that gets in the way is the two lanes (cept the inclines where they add another lane for a small portion). Get into Roanoke County and you are back in business. I can do that drive now almost blindfolded (tho I'd never try!).

If you are looking to be incognito, I think it is escort that makes a radar detector in the side mirror. They are pricey but if they are illegal it might be worth it. I have a cobra that is VG2 undetectable. I have only had one ticket and it did allow me to knock a couple mph off when I was hit with LASER. Radar detectors are useless against laser.

I completly agree with you on that. When I was still goin to Radford, I could drive that stretch with no problems. The fastest I made it from Winchester to RU was 2 hours 20 minutes in my old car. I was haulin ass and didnt see one cop running radar.

I actually use mine daily in VA. I have VG2 detection, but none the less I actually keep mine mounted on the drivers side right next to the Windshield piller. It's hardly visible from here from the outside of the car but Is still efective. You can run you power cord through the underside of the dash and up next to the door. If you do get pulled over just pop it out and you don't have wires all over the dash.

I wonder what they do if they catch someone from out-of-state with one of those built-in detectors like the Passport SR-7 or the K40? They can't really take it out so do they just tell you to turn it off?

spy2520
08-25-2005, 07:12 PM
no, they write you a ticket for what its worth. Same thing, either way your out of $1000. Actually i dont know.

Wow. I had no clue that is what they did!!! Damn. I was always curious. I never did find out what they do for that type in Canada.

I lived in Up-State N.Y for a couple years. Was always going into Canada. I know they Smash it on site, and the fine is something like $300-500 for possestion.
