Hey guys,
I have the Clarion VRX935VD, and I don't wanna hook up the brake wire so that the parking brake has to be on for the screen to play DVD's. So is there anyway I can bypass this, the manual says the DVD screen wont work if it's not hooked up, BUT I would think I Could hook it up to anything that has a signal 24-7 right to allow me to play it, since the parking break lamp only sends a signal when it's set....Right? For those that may have the Clarion is the GRASS GREEN or lighter green wire on the back. Also has anyone ever hooked up their Phone Mute wire before?

Nevermind, I just spliced it into the ground wire of the unit, and bingo I can watch and roll at the same time....

and for furure referance for anyone doing this.......manufacturers are catching on. so what you have to do is hook it up to a relay to ground. if the deck senses being turned on and off and the ground never broken (like ebrake never released) it won't play on the screen. so hook the deck ebrake wire to the relay in the normally open position, with the relay being energized off the amp turn on/power antenna lead. closing the circuit and completing ground everytime you turn your radio on. you will find this on new pioneers for sure.

Isnt there one with navigation that has an accelerometer or something in it so that it wont play video dvds if it senses the vehicle moving.

that would suck. i swear i don't know whats happening to the world these days. i could go into the middle of the desert to take a piss and some asshole would pop out of nowhere and say '' excuse me sir but there is no pissing right here". thanks for all your help, would the pac elliminate this accleromitor sensor?

the PAC will take care of everything.. I haven't heard of any accelerometer sensor in Alpines.. I think the Pioneer has it.. once the vehicle touches 5 mph, it cuts off video  ..

i think with navi, it uses gps. if you are moving, it cuts you off.

Correct it's uses an accelerameter.

However, there is a bypass to the new AVIC's. There is a sticker on the brain you can remove and jumper the connectors to put it in "service mode." On some of the other model's it's via grounding a spare wire not used on the harness. You just have to get a wire plugged into the spare hole in teh harness, ground it, and away you go breaking the law.

are you sure an accelerometer? it would seem that an accelerometer will only sense when g forces are exerted on it while taking off or stopping. cruisting at a constant speed, shouldn't see anything. maybe bumps in the road.
i screwed up and missed the timeframe for the pioneer class on navi. so i was told by another dealer that it used gps.

Hey your right!!! Unless your accelerating (in any direction) the player wont even pick it up.

What a shame that companies are doing something that prevents you from doing something illegal and potentially dangerous (not to mention trying to protect themselves from lawsuits). I guess they're just out to make your life miserable...

Don't forget there is an RPM signal wire that is hooked up to help aid in the navigation function. I wouldn't be surprised if that has dual duties to see whether the car is on or not.

I know the new pioneer N2 unit has a new feature on it. It has a GPS built in so it can sense when the car is in motion. Pretty smart huh?
