Corvette Performance - At what age did you buy your corvette?

I'm looking for a 97+ C5 for around blue book since Blue book is around 15k!? Is that number a mistake?

I turned 18 a couple weeks ago and if I find a decent job I'd really like to get one. I know some 18-20 year olds with cobras, etc and of course my fox body with a stripped interior and obnoxious exhaust is getting old pretty quickly

I bought my Z06 when I was 33.If I had a car like that when I was 18 I would have wrecked it.

I don't have one but my buddy's little bro got his ('99 C5) at 17. But he has been through Bondurant driving school and is a better driver than I am. :drive:

Bought my '66 big block in 1971 when I was 19 for 3300.00.

I was lucky to be able to drive Vettes when I was 21. And, yep, I totalled one of them. Your insurance will probably cost you more than the car. I would recommend getting an insurance quote before you go looking.

I was 17 when I got a 1962 white with red interior 327 cu. in. 340 HP 4 on the floor. The car listed for $4749. I paid for it myself. But gas was 18 cents a gallon too... :) ..those were the days!! :drive:

At age 6, 1959, when I sat in my first Corvette in the dealers showroom. I new I would buy one then. I purchased my only one in '02 for my 50th birthday present.

1999 Frc at 22 bought and paid for all on my own. No co signer. Under my own insurance policy. It was the greatest day of my life as far as car buying was concerned and a huge step towards being indpendent and an adult. Got 1 ticket first week I owned it. Who could resist the new power? Illegal lane change though not even speeding. Got a speech about how I shouldnt drive my fathers car without turning on my blinkers to change lanes because I could wreck it. He became highly jealous and upset when I told him it was mine. Had it for a year. No accidents. No more tickets. Sold it to buy a house now I own a 1999 Trans am that is mint.

I just got my first vette (Z06). I am 27. I have plenty of "experience" driving like an ass and wrecking cars in my early twenties :buttkick: so the vette should be safe.

I definitely would not recommend getting a car worth more than $15k to ANYONE under 20. No offence, kids, but there are some lessons you have to learn the hard way, and it can get expensive.

2004 Coupe (Wish I knew enough to buy a Z...) when I was 18. Currently turning 20 in December.

41 years old, 2004 z06/z16 ordered it.

Got my first when I was 26. Got my second when I was 31. The first is a gutted race car on jackstands now... LOL

It's not so much the price of the car when buying used... it's the insurance that kills you when you are making a high payment as a younger person.

I hope your not referring to me. I pay for everything on my own. I just traded my 04 nissan sentra ser in on it. Couldnt stand being a ricer anymore. Plus i got my firebird as my racecar that i have had since i was 17. My insurance on both vehicles is $121.74 and i pay for that to. My advantage is that i do still live at home though. :jest:

Age 16 - 1978 Dodge Truck, Tubbed, 440, all the good stuff. I made $6.10 a hour and spent it all on gas.

Between the ages of 17-18 I purchased over 100 Various Mopars buying and selling and driving at the same time, great money till everything dried up. Did this as my Job.

At 19 I purchased a 1994 Dodge Stealth and totaled it within a year, then bought another one to replace it. I made $7.50 a hour

At 20 I bought my '98 Coupe, I only made $8.25 a hour.

I personally get so tired of people looking at it as a status symble, hell I am broke, but happy :jest: This just proves that anyone can get what they want with ditermination. The only problem is people start to talk when you stock shelves at a Wal-Mart and drive a Vette. :lurk:

I wanted 400+ hp in my 1997 Z28 and I wanted to do it right with an LS6 engine and go from auto to stick in the process. Looked at MASSIVE number of changes I needed to make to the car, added up all the costs and said hmm need to buy a beater as well while I build it...and I have no where to build it....

So I said screw it and bought my LS6....and the 2800 lbs wrapped around it ;p

I'll have one before I'm 26, I have to April to get rid of my Z28 and find a M6 C5 then...

My brother is 22 and he ordered a black on black 2006 C6 with a six speed, Z51 package, polished wheels, and the base 1LT targa top. Msrp $47,590, but my mother co signed for the car so he could get the gmac suppliers discount and the car is going to cost $42,430. My mother works at a plant that makes something for GM. My brother is a physical therapist assistant, and he just graduated this past May. He is supposed to get it around December.
