Street Racing & Kill Stories - Raced a FAST TRUCK TODAY in my TA????

I am cruising with my daughter today in my TA and I am at a light next to a BIG White Extended Cab Pick-up (I think it was a GMC 2500 HD).

I see his car lurch forward at the redlight, I thought he must have went from Park to Drive for some reason, turns out he was taunting me.

Light goes green and he takes off like a Bat out of Hell and I am like "What was that?"

I did not even bother thinking about racing a Pick-up truck. So I catch up to him and let him hear me at likje 4500rpms in 2nd - an EVIL SOUND!

Next light I want to show him what is up, but truthfully I was not sure how I would do against this monster out of the hole.

I see him brake-torquing it and I hear the whistle of a Turbo and see blackish smoke (It must have been a diesel).

I Blip my throttle and he hears the NASTY GROWL come from my 3" cutout,

I see the other light go yellow, so I start holding the car still with the clutch while getting the revs up to about 1500rpms.

The light drops, the front end of the TA lifts up, the street tires scratch and crawl frantically for traction and it hooks up surprisingly well and I go all out in 1st and grab 2nd hard, again the front end lifts and I look back and see I have him by a good 1-2 car lengths so I back off.

He pulls next to me and he rolls down his window and I yell "That thing is AMAZING!!!"

He smiled and gave me a friendly nod and that was it.

I apologized to my daughter and to my amazement she said

"THAT WAS COOL"

She also said that my car sounds amazing.

FUN, FUN, FUN!

Does anybody know what kind of BEAST TRUCK this was???

I was truly impressed - not to mention he had two passengers with him.

That was a duramax diesel. A crop of dedicated diesel heads have been getting these things to turn solid numbers. A couple in the 11's, more than a few in the 12's, and high 13's with minimum outlay. Diesels have come a long way

It surprised the heck out of me, not to mention he had two passengers with him.

Thankfully the TA was up to the challenge :drive:

Yes, it was very possibly a Duramax.

With just tuning and some trans work, 12's from a stoplight are not uncommon.

Casper (2500HD) runs 13.04 so far (12.27 on nitrous) but it is less than 2 months old. It will get faster.

Big Blue, my wife's truck (3500 SRW Crew Cab, Long Bed) runs 13.37 at 7500lb on off-road tires.

Typical 60' times are about 1.75 on an unprepped track on normal tires.

I am still amazed :eek2:

Yup, saw a couple at the track last Thursday. Ran 12's. People in the stands pretty much had your reaction.

No, a 7000lb truck can never replace an Fbody or Vette. But why have a slow pickup when you can have a fast one? :D

It's just that we've always been the top of the food chain now things are really changing as every day progresses. :bang:

man i love deisels. you can get sooo much power out of them.

my uncle owns a monster dodge dually and his coworker has a dodge that will do a 5 wheel burnout(4 duals in back, 1 front). he does truck pulls with his though, so you can be sure its built. monsters. i love em.

its ok, our cars will always be near the top of the chain, and once i get full exhaust, cam and TT's, i plan to be as near the top as possible

Those deisel engines are rediculously strong, so most owners just push the stock turbos to their limits and can easily do 13s with that.

Seriously those trucks break turbos before they break the engines. :eek2:

Yep...those things can be quick. My buddy and I ass whipped a GTO last summer in a F350 (dually) turbo diesel. He had the "WTF look" on his face too. :D

You got to be a F'in IDIOT street racing with your daughter in the car.

Actually I am a pretty F'in smart guy, I only ran 1st until I grabbed 2nd and backed right off, it was over by then.

I am always in control and never stand on it where I know there is any cross streets or possible traffic in the way.

No tickets, no accidents since 1987 and I've had more Horsepower under my feet than most people.

I would NEVER take a chance with my kids in the car, if it would have required more to win I would not have kept going.

I DO UNDERSTAND YOUR COMMENT THOUGH!

I do most of my racing at the track, I launch very conservately at the track, even more so on the street, but it still was enough to win.

I love hearing these stories. It really gives us guys hope that have to haul around a dirtbike or a trailer but would still like to be fast even with a big ol HD. The sky is the limit when you have a diesel engine and a turbo. They can crank up the boost to ungoldy levels, Im talking 40-60psi ( stock or aftermarket turbos).

Id say on stock turbos they can see 13's and after turbo replacement who the hell knows..11's?

yeah about your exhaust is the cutout before or after the cats?

I am always in control...

Control is an illusion. Understanding that you're never really in control
is the only way to control a situation. :D

Nice race. I'm sure you didn't endanger yoru daughter. Still...probably not
a good idea. :)

Cutout is in the I-pipe after the cats, before the rear axle.

It is right under the passenger side rear seat.

It does make a backfire type popping sound sometimes that I could do without, but still the best sounding exhaust you can buy, especially for $75 installed.

unit213 -

You are correct, you are only in control until the poop hits the fan and something happens, but I try to minimize the risks as much as possible.

I have turned down many a race because of this.

I am a CONTROL FREAK, I love FAST cars, but I hate getting sideways or feeling lack of traction, so you know I only will push to a certain point.

He is right, but so are we.

Last night for example I am cruising in the TA with my wife and son when a Harley Davidson Pick-up ( Basically a Supercharged Lightning Pick-up wih 4 doors) starts wanting to try me.

There was WAY to much traffic and he rolls down his window and says "The only car on the road that can beat this is a Vette" :hump:

Like I don't know what he is packing  I could have told him I own a Vette and Admistrate a Ford website, but why bother?

I wanted desperately to lay down the smack on this nimrod, but conditions did not favor it, so I pulled next to him, cutout to his window and downshifted to 2nd to slow down and then blipped the throtle at the light to let him know I was not stock, but I did not go. There was a ton of traffic just a few feet in front of us that had come out of the side street.

I am sure he is telling ALL HIS BUDDIES how a TA backed down, but I know it was another victory I passed up for good reason.

I hope to see him again. :D
