I'm rebuilding a 10 bolt (yeah , I know but it will do for now) for my RS and installing 3:73 gears. The donor car was an "87 IROC. I figure since it's all torn down and I'm replacing all the other bearings /seals , might as well get rear seals and outer axle bearings while I'm at it.It's Sunday so I go to Autozone and tell them what I 'm looking for.I tell them that it's a '87 Camaro , 3 series pinion , and has rear disc brakes. The guy stops me and tells "That can't be the right rear axle, those cars only came with drum brakes." I tell him "No, it's an IROC-Z , they did come with rear discs ,just not the PBR brakes until '89 ." He says ," NO they didn't ." WTF? They started putting on rear discs as early as '79 on T/As . Where do they get these guys from?

I hate people who think they know every option on cars :eyes:

I got fed up with Auto Zone and their dependence on the computer system, I go elsewhere, they don't ask questions, don't give me any shit, they just give me what I ask for

Yeah, I hate that crap, too.

Try buying a clutch for a bastard 79 Trans Am that some tool swapped in an unknown Saginaw into. "Um, what year is the car"

Geez......

I was at Autozone once and couldn't find their 3" collecter gaskets, I needed new ones for my cutout. I ask, he proceeds to ask what year is my car. I try to tell him its not a stock part, he then gave me a blank look because without a year he was lost :eyes: :jest:

I use AutoZone, but I always look up parts online and send my "shopping list" to the store before I go. They take 10% off the prices when you do that, and I don't have to watch them futz around with their computer system. Also, if they're busy with another customer and I didn't pre-order, I'll grab my own terminal and start looking up part numbers, and hand them a list after they notice. Some AZ's even have little printers behind one of the counters, so you can print to them. ;)

But yeah, when I go ask for a 1" Freeze Plug and the guy says "we don't have those" and reaches up to a display and gets a rubber stopper... Umm, yeah. I say "no, they're in these drawers right under this counter over here...".

It's pretty bad whan you know the computer system and the store better than the the (supposed) help

LOL. I do the same thing Andrew does. Annoy's the hell out of those guy's.

My good friend Scott use to work for an Autozone and showed me how to look up part in the system. I can find what I want a hell of alot faster than most morons I run into.

Atleast O'Reily's is better than an AZ and can find what you are looking for quickly.

:werd: Amen brotha.

Although i went to a few O'reily's before and asked them if they carried anything made by Dynomax. They said no, i walked out. Once i actually asked for a catalogue after they said they only carried some generic brand of muffler i'd never heard of. Flipped to Dynomax and the guy said, "well i guess we do carry those." :squint:

It's very painless if what you're looking for happens to be in their catalogue.

LOL If I worked at AZ I would be happy if you looked up everything on your own.. less work for me ;)

There is a difference between a 2nd gen Saginaw and a 3rd gen Saginaw you know...

I don't really like O'Reilys. Seems like they never have what I need (last time was exhaust gasket kit for a Fiero V6? nope), and I am forced to wait on them (because you can't bypass the counter in their stores ;) ). Maybe it's because they're smaller stores around here, but AZ has what I need 90% of the time.
