It didn't outsell it often but it proved it could be done. Of note is the fact that some of those were strong years for the Firebird as well showing 137,807 for the calendar year in 1977 and sales of 209,536 again calendar year sales for the bird in 1978. (from the standard catalog of Firebirds)
