I hope this isnt in the wrong place but im a new Enthusiast that just came over from the dark side about a year ago. This site kicks serious A$$ but i dont understand why is it that we LS1 guys dont have a better magazine I maybe lookin in the wrong places but that is one thing the dark side has. A new issue of their mag would last me at least a week and ours a day at best. I know there is more out there that we take part in shows, rallies, fun family events, things of that nature. I know this isnt supper important but it is one thing that i think truely shows pride in our sport. I once again hope that this isnt in the wrong spot and I know theres no real awnser to this Im kindda just venting and had to get this off my chest maybe there is a way that we could all pool our efforts to make a kick a$$ mag. thanks for listening or reading my thoughts. props to one bad a$$ site. :hail: Toby

It's my opinion that magazines are targeted at those who spend the most money. That makes their advertisers happy and it sells magazines.

The LS1 community is not as mature (old) enough to have the need to replace major assemblies. Any work we do is still in the maintenance phases or elective mods. While that can add up to major bucks, it still isn't in the realm of, say, First Gen Camaros that need fenders, trunk floors, floor pans, engines (SBC, the most purchased and modified motors ever), hoods, suspension, trim, and everything else. People that own and bring those back to life are a driven bunch and spend buttloads of $$$.

Someday, when our cars and trucks are as rusty and beat up as those cars, we'll get the attention as well.

We definatle need some better magazines, I like picking up a 5.0 magaizine to read just for the fact that it is better entertainment that is on most T.V. shows about cars. I think that there is more than enough material out there to make a good magazine.

There was a test magazine called Camaro Source (I think). It was pretty good. I think Super Chevy Magazine were the people that made Camaro Source.

once again all im saying..... well sorry to get ahead thanks for the responses....... im just saying that there mags seem to have more coverage, better features, better pics the feature rides sections is longer and more members rides that sort of thing. There are many very attractive women out there that enjoy and drive ls 1 lets get pics and shots of them and their cars i just think that are mags are a little ok alot on the dry side we are a very wide age group and i think that we could do a better job in this area. i think its a pride thing slightly yes there is some great tech info in our mags but its a shame that we represent so many diffrent types of vehicles and all of our mags combined are probly thinner than our counterparts.

Chevy High Performance has had some good stuff about
LSX engines.
Actually my #1 gripe with most mags (CHP included) is
either lack of details or poor photos on projects. I rebuilt
my first small block at 16 with ALL torque specs, tips, etc from the magazines at the time (late '60s). Looks to me like some of the mags just farm all the work out. How can they report what they don't freaking know?
Most projects just look like adds for shops/suppliers.
Seems like the writers are just that, writers, not wrenchers.
Too much bling and not enough meat n' taters.

I think gwj hit it on the head. we need some wrenchers writing these articles. they would know what people actually wanted to know, and what photos to show. it makes sense to me. I agree that there is too much bling thoough.

Who needs mags? That's what the WWW is for!

Seriously though, I would probably subscribe if there was a kick ass LSX mag around.

GMHTP is fairly good I think. I'm a little disappointed though that their articles on LS1s are mostly just either:
1) free mods
2) intake/exhaust
3) nitrous

They really need to branch out a bit and tackle more specific aspects of the car. I'd like to see a car go from bone stock to a nice autocross setup, showing install, prices, and all parts. Also it would be nice to see comparisons/ dyno curves of 4 or 5 different cams, with descriptions of their street manners. They never seem to get into that kind of stuff.

I assume by the title of your post you mean a LS1-engine specific information magazine and not a platform-specific one. If so, Hot Rod magazine is by far the best magazine for up-to-date technical information for the Gen III/IV engines.

The editors are smart enough to realize these are the hot rod engines of now and the future. They generally have LSX info in every issue.

GMHTP has actually mentioned that the reason its hard for them to get into cams swaps etc. is because it is a relativly small volume mag without the financial resources or manpower.
