Automotive News, Media & Press - Firebird rumer I have been hearing for years.

All of the rumers I heard about the Camaro turned out true.

I have also heard for the last few years that the Firebird would return as a two seater V6 rear drive roadster. For a long time GM had nothing in that market and I thought it might be true, now the Solist is out and the Sky is comming so I dont see it.

Has anyone else hear this rumer?

Yeah, there has been nothing from GM sources about the firebird. Not that once couldn't be thrown together quickly to piggy back on the Camaro, but for now I think Pontiac's wanting to go in a different direction.

I think there was some chatter about naming the solstice "firebird", but they made the right choice and decided the 'bird should stay dead than get bastardized.

Not that the Solstice isn't cool, but it ain't a Firebird.Technically speaking the 2-Seat Solstice is more line with the original Firebird that DeLorean wanted GM to build. He wanted a 2-Seat hard top or convertible mid engine car, and the brass only gave him the Camaro to work with. He continued to push for a two seat mid engine car into the 1970s and got the Fiero finally, but after the gas crissis they basterdized that car into a commuter economy car rather than a performance car. DeLorean finally gave up on his dream Firebird and made his own car.....which we all know about.

PS I'm happy they didn't call the Solstice a Firebird too.

My solution to Pontiac's Line Up is this.

RWD Sedan = Grand Prix
RWD Coupe = Firebird
V8 RWD Sedan = GTP
V8 RWD Coupe = Trans Am
V8 RWD High OutPut Coupe = Trans Am GTO

The GTO was a trim level on the Tempest. The Tempest ended life as a FWD Korean compact car. I see nothing wrong with making GTO a trim level on a Trans Am.

I like that idea... when or if they redo the GTO... thats how they should bring it back... I think that would be a great idea! :drive:
