They should build and sell them like Dodge does with the Viper Competition Coupe.

A new Camaro could race in Grand-Am Cup and the Speed World Challenge.

Even better make it the NASCAR so all the rednecks will up the sales, make a V6 drift car to appeal to the ricer nation, Transam it, and of course drag race it. The drifting thing would be interesting if GM actually offered the supporting modifiable parts so that ricers could make their V6's "powerful" and drive up the sales to make the V8's more affordable....And, GM should also try to get the thing in a movie to make it more popular like Smokey and the Bandit did for the Transam or F&F did for retards.

i think they should start racing again. the only thing they race that i know of is the corvette in lemans series and they have some small sponsorships with the cobalt. as for ricers i would probably still have a v8 like the drift mustang. i miss the old days (even though i wasn't alive to see them) of full factory backed race cars, and the factories making 500 units of a certain car just to compete in racing.

They could make it the new IROC car.. The IROC series is still using the 02 T/A body style

"Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday."
That might have worked in the 60s/70s. These days, most new car buyers could care less about racing.

they should offer somthing like ford does with that mustang package that comes complete with full cage, 5.0 cammer engine, and hoosier racing slicks all around (road race). I believe the mustangs im speaking of took 1st in the whatever league they race in this past season, beating out M3's and such.

SCCA was the big arena for the F-body back in the '90's but the competition has grown quite a bit since then. If everybody gets on board with the IRS, then the car *might* have a chance in GT racing similar to the GTO-R. The question will be whether GM wants to put Camaro's in the mix with GTO's and Vette's. Camaro-R anyone?
History has shown that the majority of Camaro enthusiasts like to drive in straight lines which won't garner much in the way of sales by way of drag racing since the body of the car barely resembles the factory car when looking at pro classes that use kevlar/cf bodies. I can't see someone buying a Toyota Celica because Jim Head (or whoever drives that car) won a Funny Car event.

why the hell woudl "ricers" or drifters like v6's? especially considering that 7/10 "ricer" events have been won by a car with pushrods and 8 cylinders or more.
hell with your logic the grand national must have been a peice of crap. turbo v6, what a ricer car.

Yes, in Grand-Am Cup. The new Mustang FR500C won 5 races and Ford won the Grand-Am Cup Championship (GS class).

Simply attempting to appeal to a plethora of driving preferences, or this car will never be ubiquitous and cheap.
Ohhhh yeah -- they should definitely race it! Everywhere they can -- drag, autocross, drift, endurance, you name it.

i fail to see your reasoning for why a drift car needs a v6 when it has a awesome lsx motor in it from the factory.

"i fail to see your reasoning for why a drift car needs a v6 when it has a awesome lsx motor in it from the factory."
Because of grabasstically inclined asshat ricer trolls who waste money on 4 and 6 cylinder engines. Most people that are into V8's are not going to care about drifting. The asshated ricer trolls who waste their money to slide around a corner typically do there abnormal driving in a 4 or 6 cylinder vehicle. Thus, we should have a drift car that uses a V6 so that the trolls can see yet another V6 to waste their money on (and brag about the capabilities of their half and 3/4 motors). Then, perhaps we could sell V6's to ricers and make the price of our proper 8's less egregious.

^ I 100% understand what you're saying, and agree (because that's really the way it is with ricers). You could line up a Honda Civic, Mustang V6, and a Camaro SS, and the ricers would chose the cars in that order as which to modify for racing.
They COULD go with a $5000 LT1 and have a 14-second car right off the bat to start out with, but they'd rather spend $10,000 on a Civic, spend another couple thousand on stupid body accessories and "performance" mods that might make up for the difference in added weight from the extre accessories, and voila, they've got themselves a 15-16 second racecar that they brag about having "mad handling" at the drag strip, then when they're at an auto-cross, they say it isn't set up for the corners because it has so much power and is set up for drag.

I am yet to see why Mustang or the FBodies were not marketed to these idiots. There is a lucrative market to be made, via the stupidity of ricers and GM should cash in on it. Surely they could show how high tech, the V6, RWD, and IRS are in the new Maro and garner ricer sales via such argumentation. GM should even sell body kits, wings, interior mods, gauges, turbos, superchargers, et al for these cars. I personally hate to see a riced Maro running around, but if it lowers the price of my LS7 Maro then all the happier!!!

I think that they should twist the arms of the Nascar tycoons and put it in that arena. Just replace the monte carlos w/ the new camaro. That way it is not competing against the GTO-R or C6R

Definately there should be a NASCAR Maro. Make a "NASCAR version" with a LS4, make it cheap, and sell it to rednecks.
