DC did the same thing like a year ago. They even went as far as to call tow trucks to have the vehicles taken away. When one of the tow truck drivers learned of the reason behind the request to have various non DC vehicles towed, he refused to take the cars away and it was all over the internet. Don't know what eventually came of the situation. Stupid if you ask me. As much as I understand having members of your company support the company, I can't blame them. If anything Ford should make it such that if workers with vehicles that aren't FoMoCo products want to park their vehicles in Ford lots, they must fill out a survey explaining why they purchased a non FoMoCo vehicle in the first place. FoMoCo should be asking why THEIR OWN employees were led to products from the competition in the first place. Maybe if they knew why people were buying outside of FoMoCo then they'd be able to improve their own product ranges. *sigh*. Some people are just plain too stupid to realize when there is an opportunity to further their education staring them in the face.

I'm pretty sure GM does it to. I really don't see the big deal. It's not like the ban them outright, they just reserve the closest parking lots for employe's driving their product.

These people are doing nothing wrong by driving another product, I don't even feel like explaing all of the reasons why this is completely ridiculous. I have a feeling people work there for the pay check, not for the pride of building something for good ole' Ford. I saw something in there that said "you should buy what you build", what kind of statement is that? Let's see here, a chef at a strictly mexican resturant eats chinese food one night for supper, his boss then announces publicly that he should only eat what he cooks for a living. Hah, is that little story any different than this parking lot BS?

GM does the same thing.

They have all done this at some time and it never lasts too long.

When it gets ridiculous IMO is when employees start damaging other employees cars because they are not built from where they work.

Can you imagine driving a rebuilt 69' Camaro to work at Ford and some yahoo keying it because it was built by GM?

Might be the first time I would support the ACLU. Depending on what side of the arguement there on.

I live about twenty minutes away from DC's Kokomo, IN, transmission plants. They have three there, and the newest one has this very same policy. The parking lot is huge, and clear out at the farthest point from the plant are about 30-40 spaces for non-DC vehicles. My parent's neighbor works there, and he had his brand-new SUV keyed all to pieces because it wasn't a DC product. The only reason he bought it was because at the time there wasn't a DC vehicle to fit his towing needs. The newest DC plant is about 3-4 years old, and the policy is still in effect. But from what I hear from employees of the other two plants, there's no way possible they can implement the same policy at those two plants.

I worked at GM for 22+ years and now at Delphi for almost 7 years and our company lots have never barred any type vehicle from parking anywhere but the handicap spots and we are and always have been a UAW plant.

Go visit the Corvette manufacturing plant in Bowling Green. They make non-GM vehicles park WAAAAAY in the back, in a different lot. Yes, even for tourists taking the tour.

Hell,

If they have to drive the car.. maybe they'll pay a little more attention while putting the damn thing together, and the things won't be in the shop 100 times.. lol. Not that GM is much better.

Wow , glad Peterbilt doesn't have that policy , they're a bit , uh, expensive and not that easy to parallel park. Here's one for ya , they actually discourage us from buying a truck because they want us to be focused on our jobs and not a side business such as trucking. We can buy one if we want but we pay what any of you would pay.

I went last year and I noticed them, but it didn't look like they were enforcing it. I saw a lot of non-GM vehicles parked in the GM areas.

A guy quoted in that article said he bought a Chrysler because he got a better deal than he could from the company he works for...a shame, IMO...employees of any company should be able to buy the products they manufacture at a substantial savings savings over the general public...

GM does have the same policy, but it's to protect those "other" cars from damage by their own employees. Funny how none of the foreign makers in the US have the same policies...

I hear Ford is doing this because they are afraid an LS7 Maro could scare the Ponys...

how the heck could anyone file a lawsuit over this??? it's the companies parking lot, right? it's their property, right? our parking lot has designated "non daimlerchrysler" parking areas, and the exception is for handicapped spots......many businesses have signs made up for there lots that prohibit non-customers from parking, what's the difference? the company is still providing places for them to park, just not the most desirable places.....

normally you can, but recenctly dcx has allowed employees to give a certain number of employee discounts(about 4% below invoice) away.....guys at our plant use the same "better deal" excuse when they roll up in their escalades and f-150s and vettes.....i could care less what they drive, heck i was driving camaros long before i started working for chrysler and i'm not gonna stop driving them now, but i also don't have any issue with designated parking....

I remember when I was in Indy last year I noticed alot of non GM cars parked at their plant near the track during a weekday and wondered why so many GM employees didn`t drive a GM car. :eyes:

A suit over this would not even make it to Ct. There is no standing to sue seeing as no right has been violated, thus no discrimination.

That's the Allison Transmission Plant. It's practically right across the street from IMS. Wonder if they'd let an employee drive a tank to work since they build transmissions for some of them there? :)
