Idled workers represented by the United Auto Workers union are eligible for unemployment, and the company makes up most of their difference in lost wages. Once their unemployment runs out, workers are transferred to Ford's jobs bank program, where they receive almost full pay and benefits. That's my main issue with this type of action. Granted, much money is saved by cutting out the materials, but by still paying workers nearly full pay without working, it doesn't seem worthwhile. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with the workers who will lose their jobs, and many of them will not be content to just sit around, but it still seems pretty rediculous. Sad to see the GT go.

Is the GT being discontinued due to lack of sales or some kind of problems, or was it truely a "limited edition/production" car?

They could still sell GT's ceasing there production is retarded. Paying workers just to pay them is like a form of Communism. Free Markets cannot run amuck, but this is F'n Lunacy. Ford and the other US companies should steer themselves a better course than such deleterious actions.

The latter, it was produced for a two-three year run. Crash and emissions standards are changing for 2007 and it won't past without further investment.

Anyone seen the roadster version? I kind of stopped following all 'new' cars since I finally got my Camaro, thus ending the search. But damn I was in the store today and saw on the cover of DuPont Registry a roadster GT. Looked killer.

All new car manufacturers are required to have a ten year supply of parts for cars after they go out of production.
