Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Help with a 350 project...

My buddy was supposed to be getting a '49 chevy pickup yesterday with a 350/4 speed in it. I was talking to him last night and he wants me to help him put together a good combo for it. It has a stock 350 in it right now and he's wanting to make around the same power as my car (mods in sig). You guys know any links i can check out (preferrably forums) to get an idea of what we can do to get him to his goal? TIA :)

nice cam/head kit with headers would make around 400hp.
and that power is delivered quite differently than your ls1

yeah, I remember the powerband my sbc had in my old '84 firebird I had in highschool (edelbrock/holley double pumper setup). He just wants something streetable with somewhat the same power level that my car has.

That url doesn't work. Tried it and a bunch of links to crate engine vendors came up. How involved would it be to convert the 350 from the oldschool firing order to ls1 firing order? I know the cam would have to ground for it, but what else would be involved and what else would have to be changed? It doesn't have electronic ignition yet so now would be the time to decide whether or not it's worthwhile to do it. Would switching to the ls1 firing order give it roughly the same powerband as say my car with a similar cam/head setup? Thanks for all your help guys, this is going to be my first oldschool project. The smallblock in my firebird was never touched by me so I only have experience with gen III chevys. :)

I am using the ls1 firing order in my 383 sbc. Cam was ground for the change. Then all you have to do is change the plugwires on the distributor.
