Stereo & Electronics - Need To Change Stock Speakers plz help

Okay Guys one of my speakers is blown and im not happy with the sound im thinking of Alpine Type R SPR-17LP for the front and and JL Audio 6W0 for the subs can i do these speakers? or will there be fitment issues or do you guys think those speakers would not be good? also do i need to cut stuff or is there harnesses i can buy?

If your still running the Monsoon amp, the Infinity 62.7i's are a direct replacement for stock, are 2ohm like stock and sound great. I put them up front in my 02 Z28 and in the sailpanel. Every speaker I have seen other than the 62.7i requires some type of modification to get them to work in the front doors. The sailpanel sub is 2ohms and there isn't alot of power running to them from the Monsoon amp, that is why I went with the 62.7i's there too and ran the tweeter to the hatch speaker wires. My 2 10's make all the bass and the Infinitys are for mids and highs only.

so how much is the most you can get in the sail panel as far as mounting depth goes without modding it?

I think there is about 3.25" to 3.5". I remember reading last year that you'll have to do a little cutting to make the 6W0's fit. But I could be thinking about another speaker model.

im very interested in finding out if they do or not i will probably be buying some speakers this weekend

Personally I didn't consider the 6W0 when I was picking out sail panel replacements. Mainly because I thought the sensitivity would be way too low to hear at the typical power levels put out by the stock amplifier. At 81.6dB/W/m that's about 10dB lower than the Alpines in my doors. I think the 6W0's would be great if you add a seperate sub amplifier.

I dont think so, at least not if the speaker is a standard 6.5" size. I Just replaced my stockers with a pair of Alpine SPS170A, which are a very noticeable improvement, especially when it comes to bass. No mods necessary, they dropped right into the stock baskets. I didnt replace my tweeters and probably will not, I am going to replace the sail panel drivers with something better, and thats about it.

well i just finished replacing mine went WIth Kicker 6 1/2 they guy that sold em to me told me that the would sound better then the alpines and they costed less they sound pretty good cant compare them to alpines since i dont have any but overrall im happy with them oh and they fit righ in there

I installed Pioneer TS-M7PRS 6.75" midbasses (91dB/W/m, 28Hz - 10KHz). Mounting depth is less than 3 inches. They run about $200 shipped.

You must have a Firebird. Camaro's don't have seperate tweeter locations. So the SPS-170A's do have to be modded in order to wire the tweeter and woofer seperately as in the stock configuration. This mod is very simple. I have the Alpines in the doors of my SS.

well i just finished replacing mine went WIth Kicker 6 1/2What was the model of those Kickers you got (SSMB6)?
I bought the 6W0's only to find out that they are too deep and would require cutting.doh!
So now i have two brand new subs collecting dust in my basement.

If you could post the model number of the Kickers that would be cool.

The problem with a lot of car audio shops is they don't know much about the setups in these cars.. Then totally bypass the Monsoon amp and connect the speakers directly to the headunit input, so instead of around 25 watts rms going to the woofer(from the monsoon amp) and 17 or so watts going to the tweeter(from the headunit), they run the whole speakers off the 17 watts(headunit only, since it is full range) and the monsoon amp isn't even used. There are not many speakers that can be modified easily to work, so most people don't even know they are not even getting all the power they could be if the proper speakers with dual inputs or ones that could be easily modified like the Alpines mentioned earlier. I just put a set of 62.7i's in my friends car today... when he went to a local car audio shop and wanted to buy the 62.7i's, they kept telling him they would not work, even crutchfields say they do not work, but they work perfect.

I just installed a set of Polk db6750 components in my front doors and they fit perfectly. They also sound awsome!!!
