they have gone that fast without touching the rears whatsoever? or do they have girdle's and different axles and other parts?

i'm suprised that m6 has made it that far.. m6's usually are the 1st to break them

stock 3.42s and stock axles. When I finally pulled the rear apart I had one axle that was begining to twist.

I kept a lil more tire psi in the tires to spin it off the line the first 10-20 feet or so t0 1.5-1.6 sixty foots. When I put the 12 bolt in and lowered tire psi to 12 psi the car would go consistant 1.44s

so 10.30 so far. And your 10 bolt is completely stock. No gridle cover or axles or spool?

I went 10.40@131 with a BONE stock rear in my 93z with 3.23 gears. I am very confident the car went faster than that on a couple of street races which hurt the trans before I got it to the track. Sense all I can prove is 10.40, that's what I will say my rear lived to. I have been racing for 3 season on this rear to. I would say probrably 300-400 passes on it. Prob 250 1.6x 60' and a bunch of low 1.5x's and a few times where the car just spun.

Andrew has Moser axles and a TA girdle though. I have runs some quick times with mine, but I have aftermarket gears and girdle, with stock axles.

Stock 3.42 GM gears, stock axles, stock zexel diff. As for the girdle...I dont know if it was in place when I ran the 10.3. I ran a bunch of mid 10s and 1.5x sixty foots with the stock cover. But at some point I bought a TA rear cover. That was probably 3 years ago.

you guys both A4's? or M6's? The way people were talking about the 10 bolts before and how often they break.. i bought a ford 9" with 35 spline axles and a locker lol.. I got on the dyno and lost 25-28RWHP from it hahaha.. I said screw that and put the 10 bolt back in.. feels twice as fast and if it breaks.. hell i can find one for $300 again.. Those are crazy times guys! is that with spray outta the hole? and are you running slicks?

Matt D
02-26-2006, 09:49 PM
Automatic, spraying out of the hole, on slicks.

wow.. your 10 bolt has taken a huge beating with those slicks and spray outta the hole! you have changed any parts at all in your 10 bolt? never had the carrier bearings or anything go bad? thats just awesome haha! thanks for the info

The rear had Richmond 4.10 gears, solid pinion spacer, the usual master install kit, TA gridle, ARP stud kit, and changed the fluid every few weeks with Royal Purple 85w140.

Although I haven't run as fast of times as the other guys, I have cut 1.49, 1.52, 1.55 and many 1.58 60' times on the completely stock 10 bolt.

my best so far is a 1.61 on BFG's with only lca's, i've gone 11.0's.

gonna try to hit low 1.5's with some suspension and a stickier on a 15 in rim.

99 i'd like to see when you run your car again.

I would like to know how much these cars weigh, weight of a car has ALOT to do with how much the drivtrain componets will take! These are great times with the 10 bolt! Awesome,

Your right, in many cases weight plays a huge roll in making stock drivetrain parts last. My car was in the 2875lbs range last time out (3090 race weight), it will be even lighter this season. I'll be looking to cut some high 1.30s with 'ol 10 bolt this year. :D

BTW: I believe that CableBandit's race weight is like 3,800lbs if I remember.

If any of those cars were stick that rear would be toast.I was thinking about going with after market axels and a spool in my old 10 bolt but everyone says you need to be automatic for the 10 bolt to stay together.

You can get axles from any of the big name mailorder companies. Moser and Superior both make 10 bolt axles. Stick with the Mosers, they are about 3lbs lighter per axle than the Superiors and the quality was nicer when I compared the two. Nobody makes a full spool for a 7.6" 10 bolt.

I went 10.23@134mph, 1.51 60', with a stone stock 10bolt with 3.42's. It came out of a M6 car that I bought. I never did break it but I was getting worried about breaking it and crashing the car so I now have an 8.8" Ford and have gone into the 9's with better traction and some more HP. Later Clint

Well, this is kind of a silly thread but for a little perspective, you guys running stock rears are crazy IMO. I had an axle break in my 10 bolt... came clean out of the rear about 30ft out. I almost hit the wall (very close!) and if I hadn't had LCA relocators the car would have been sliding on the rear rocker panel...arrgh...whew. After having to push my heap back on the trailer with the wobley wheel we shoved back in I could only hang my head in shame(luckily I towed that night and didn't drive it). I left rear oil and a nasty gouge in the track. This was a drum rear car at the time but it has to be rough on disc brake hardware too. After that in went a Moser 12 and everything is peachy...

I know some 10 bolt rears last but most dont. So you just have to ask yourself if its worth the potential problems. Im sure you could find a gajillion folks on here with similar stories and worse.

I hope I didn't piss anybody off with this slightly off topic sidebar...
