Rare Ferrari Destroyed in Malibu Crash

MALIBU, Calif.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances behind a spectacular crash on Pacific Coast Highway that destroyed a rare Ferrari Enzo estimated to be worth more than $1 million.

The red Ferrari was going at least 100 mph when the driver lost control and struck a power pole, investigators said. The car _ one of only 400 made _ shattered, with its engine coming to rest on the highway and its wreckage scattered.

Sheriff's investigators identified the owner as Stefan Ericksson, 44, of Bel Air, who escaped the wreck with only a cut lip.

"For $1 million, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work," said Sgt. Philip Brooks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said Ericksson told them he was a passenger and the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich, who he said ran into the nearby hills. A three-hour search failed to turn up anyone, and officials said they were skeptical of the account. Only the driver's side air bag deployed, Brooks said.

"He destroyed one of the finest cars on earth, maybe the finest," said Ferrari owner Chris Banning, a Beverly Hills writer who is finishing a book on the cult of sports car racing along winding Mulholland Drive.

"It's like taking a Van Gogh painting and burning it."

What a little bitch. They built 399 of em. There will be MORE than enough Enzo's in the hands of pussy collectors who will do nothing with the car but let it sit and collect dust because they see it as an investment, not a fine piece of machinery. If anything, this wreck makes those babied Enzo's worth more as the car has just become a bit more rare. While it is sad to see an Enzo die, I'd rather a supercar go out with a bang than sit and accumulate dust in a showroom somewhere. Ferrari didn't build this 600+ hp supercar and make it look like shit in the name of aerodynamics so it could be admired standing still.

Yes it's kind of depressing to see a stupid asshole who's obviously lying about who was driving wreck the car because he sucks at driving. Dietrich? Gimme a fucking break, the asshole registered owner they found in the passenger seat who couldn't drive worth a shit is obviously lying. The evidence seems to indicate that he was the one behind the wheel. And if he wasn't, what kind of dipship lets a "German acquaintence" known only as Dietrich take his million dollar baby up and over 150+ mph on a public strip of road?

Getting back to what I was saying, yes it's sad to see the car go in such a reckless manner, but "death by high speed impact with a pole" is a much better way to go than "death by suffocation due to all the dust it has collected." Even though the owner was a dipshit, at least he was trying to exploit some of the Enzo's capabilities. This was a good death. Reckless and unecessary, but still a good death.

I sort of agree. There is no point in spending a shit load of money on a car to let it sit and collect dust. You buy things to use them. Because what enjoyment can you get out of it if it just sits?

However, it is a shame that the Enzo got totalled. That dude should really learn how to drive.

Good at least somone isnt a pussy and drives the damn thing, even if he doesnt know how to drive.

The US is the only counrty were cars are bag sealed, at least other countrys enjoy the car and take it out to the club. Or take them to small track events, but not here everyone is so money hunry and OCD about shit they have to never drive the poor cars.

Thats just horrible. :( Feffaris have been my dream cars since I was like 7 years old, so I know how TAbeba feels. My dreams car has always been the 1984 Ferrari Testarrossa.
If I had one of theese cars I would at least drive it once a month.

Stefan Ericksson is well-known here in Sweden as he is a known associate to the "Uppsala-Mafia" and has been involved with organized crime here in Sweden (mostly economic crime). He is known here as "Tjock-Steffe" (Swedish for Fat Stefan, Steffe is short for Stefan). Basically he is a stupid f**k. He actually made the frontpages in Sweden with that crash.
