"6" DVC sail panel subs: P/N 9365799 $32.00 (Verified from my 2001 Formula)
is wrong.
These speakers are tweeter/ sub combo that both run at 4 ohms, don't know what the hell they go to, but its not a fbody monsoon system.

If I'm wrong about that, buy them from me, real cheap, cuz I can't return them :bang:

There's something wrong here... the numbers you list are for Camaro not Firebird. The fact that the tweeters are included made that obvious but I checked the parts list anyway just to be sure. Firebirds have separate mids and tweeters in the door - they have to be bought as separate part numbers.

I also double checked the sail panel sub part numbers. P/N 9365799 is the 6" DVC sail panel speaker for audio options W54 and W55 (Monsoon cassette and CD respectively) on Firebirds. They will be 4-ohm because running the two 4-ohm voice coils in parallel yields a net 2-ohm load. If you ordered that part number and got something else then you should return it as mispackaged.

Edit: this applies to coupes...the convertibles are a different setup with different part numbers. I can get them if you need them.

so your saying that in the camaro, the sail panel speakers are totally different than the firebirds?

The sail subs in the camro are single subwoofers. Those are # 10447249.

I ordered the sail subwoofers with the thought that they would be the same for both the T/A and camaro speakers, fuc, live and learn. Wnat to buy them cheap???

Well, sort of. The speakers in the Camaro and Firebird are different. The door speakers in a Camaro are a 6" mid with a tweeter mounted in the middle almost like a coaxial speaker (but with separate connections). The door speakers in Firebirds are two separate pieces - a 6" mid and a 0.8" dome tweeter mounted above and forward of the mid. However, the sail panel speakers in both models are subs. The Camaro subs are single voice coil (one connection) 2-ohm 6.5S (oversize). The Firebird subs are dual voice coil (two connections) 4-ohm 6.5S wired in parallel to produce a 2-ohm load for the amp. Neither model has tweeters in the sail panel. Finally, Camaros have single 4" speakers in the hatch area but Firebirds have 4" mids and separate 0.6" tweeters there.

I expect that GM made them different as one of a number of ways to justify the higher price of the Firebirds compared to the Camaros.

BTW, the part number I show for the Camaro sail panel subs is 16235651 from 97 thru 02 but GM may have superseded the number to the one you got.

yeah, ita a new part # for the subs in the Z's. Its actually alot better that the previuos speaker. The new one is made out of composite not paper, so I imagine we won't see these blowing out half as much, if ever.

Whitebird, you should do a small summary of the different monsoon systems if you can get it added to the faq or stickies.

There are so many questions over and over and over again about "their" monsoon system and it's just too hard for most people to sort through and comprehend the little differences between the camaro/firebird/coupe/convertible systems. There's also a lot of conflicting information if the person actually tries a search.
