I've just replaced my stock door speakers with the Infinity Kappa 62.7. I replaced them because my driver side speaker would distort with any bass levels. I would have to turn the bass knob almost off to lose the distortion. So as mentioned I replaced both front speakers. But the problem still exists not nearly as bad, but I can't crank my sterio. I have the stock monsoon amp and the stock head unit for my 2002 Z28. Any input/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is it still just the drivers side speaker making the distortion? Or do both front speakers sound the same..

You're gonna need to purchase an aftermarket head unit to make those Kappas sound right anyways. I had the same problem with my front speakers, and replaced them with Boston Acoustics along with a new Eclipse cd head unit. They sound great now.

I like my Monsoon system with my Alpine speakers. But if you like your music loud, or are picky about sound quality, an aftermarket HU would better suit you.

Probably the best route for you would be a 4 channel amp (with a head unit or a high/low level converter) with a built in crossover. Let all 80+hz pass. That will cut out most of your bass which those speakers are not designed for. If you need more then you can look into a stealth box or something similar.
