I know this had to be posted before and I did a search and didn't find it. Anyone know the battery and alt ratings? I'm getting a new battery and possibly a larger alt for my system.

Do they make a direct fit larger alternators for our cars? I figured out my absolute max current draw will be 74amps. I don't know how much the car draws, but I need that much in reserve.

I don't know the EXACT figures but factory batteries are right around 550-600 CCA. Alternators are either 100 or 130 amps, with the 130 being an uncommon option, maybe cold weather / cop car packages or something like that.

I just got a battery, and unless you are willing to do some modifying, there really isn't much difference in the reserve capacity of the group 75 batteries that our car uses. I shopped around by specs and noticed that top of the line Die-hards, Optimas, and Delcos all had the same 90 minute reserve capacity. People like the Optimas because they are supposed to be more durable and in general more reliable, not because they offer a performance advantage. (at least from the specs I saw).

Ebay is the only place I've seen even a remotely reasonable 130 - 200 amp alternator. Problem is that alternators are so flaky, I'd be really gun shy ordering one from eBay. From what I know remanufactured alternators have like a 50% chance of being crap.

If it helps you any, I have a Memphis amp with 75 watts of fusing (peak amp draw is right near that), a Kenwood head unit, and a radar detector. The amp is a 5 channel 55x4 + 400x1 (1 ohm) and I run it at 1 ohm. I see essentially no flicker at all with the bass hitting, and am using a 80 amp circuit breaker on the power line.

So for your system I'd think you'll be fine. I do have a new battery though, but that really shouldn't be an issue. You just need to have a good battery and alternator.

Just make sure you wire everything up clean and consider doing the big three, you'll be fine.

I didn't do the big three but probably will sooner or later.

Helms says 690 CCA for the battery, and 105 A for the alt.

Hmph. The one I took out of my car was a delco, and I know it was less than 600. Maybe they used different ones from the factory.

Maybe it was a V6 battery - Helms says 525 CCA for the 3.8????
