The crossfire was in productions for only 2 years 82 and 84. There were no 83 corvettes. I would stay away from the 84, it is not the best daily driver and there really isnt any mods for that engine.
The tuned port engine would be a better choice IMO. Better on gas and drivability. Plus there are many more after market products for those engines.
I used to own an 84 with the crossfire, while it was a fun car, it just didnt offer the performance you would expect.
thanks steve for yr input I appreciate it

Definately get the TPI over the crossfire, it has way more potential. Supposedly the 84 crossfire vette was the slowest vette ever. The newer you can get the better since the early TPI vettes were pretty weak too, try to get at least an 87.

Just get an '84, and swap a BBC into it. Corvette purists might puke, but the swap is straightforward, and it will definitly fly. '84s can be picked up in this area for chump change, and it would make a pretty sweet street-sweeper.
had my eye on a late 86 though but that can change,
thanks bat ta
lets see if I can get a 87 vette then, thx all

The newer the better. If you can, try to get a 90 +. They get much better.

my buddy owns an 89 tpi vette. It is suprisingly quick and is a very nice handling car given it's age. I would agree though to skip the crossfire and get a tpi. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Just shop around and i'm sure you can find a good deal. My dad and I found a 1991 vette for $2,500. The previous owner had left the fuel cap unscrewed, letting water get into the tank and then started it. We had to replace most of the fuel system, and put new gaskets and seals in the engine but now it runs fine for only about $3,100 total.
