hello
i was just wondering what you guys think the hp on my sbc 406 would be, ballpark.
its a 400, .030 over, which, oviously is a 406. its got 10-1 compression flattops. the cam is 244 @.050" w/ .501" of lift and a 108* lsa. stock heads, holly dominator intake and a holly 750 double pumper, and some shorty headers.
i thought like 300-350 or so hp, but im not shure at all.
thanks

what do you mean by stock heads?
Villain281H
06-08-2006, 10:32 PM
yeah, stock heads could mean 461 castings or 882 castings, so a little clarification might help. Either way, the 300-350 could be a good guess, but heads will make a big difference.

I didn't know what value to put in for the intake port cc's - just took a educated guess. Also, I put the CR at 9.5 - thats getting close to the limit for iron heads.

I'd say the 392 hp is a little off. Hell I made 327 rwhp with a 350 with aftermarket aluminum heads, a 10:1 compression and 518/536 lift cam with a Victor Jr. and 650 dp Holley.
Heads are the main thing: what kind are they?

we had a bracket nova with a simler combo except we used a cam crane ground 35 years ago called a saterday night special can find it in jegs summit 100 bucks its 518 / 536 250 260 on a 106 cl footbraked real well we first had the 73 vette turbo heads they called them car went 10:90 than we put on iron eagle 215 - 64 cc and car picked up to 10 50 in the cool weather and 60s in the heat has a 456 gear w/ a 176 in a glide sweet combo but it did not like it when it got hot we cracked 3 stock blocks 2 bolts lasted longer than the 4 bolts before we went away from that combo lots of torque and tire spin if track is not their jz

that motor with a 70's truck head will be lucky to make 300hp at the flywheel. and as for running 10.90's in a nova with a iron chevy head then 10.50's with an iron eagle using an old technology flat tappet how much did the car weigh 2500lbs or less with driver because if you say heavier there is just no way.

#1 that 1/4 jackass. in a 3550lb all steel streetcar
#2 for a 2950 car to run 127mph it requires roughly 570hp which a small solid cam in an iron headed flattop 406 is not going to do. so quit spewing bs and getting this guys hopes up.

ok, finally took off the vlve covers, they are 882 castings. just thought id put that on here. thanks for all the help so far!!!

882 castings are not the best, but also not the worst. If they are not ported the 300-350 hp figure is about all you'll see IMHO.
