OK i ordered a subthump stealth box so i could use a Kicker L7. Well it kinda defeats the purpose of getting the box if your ttop lays on the sub huh? I tapped it in place with a hammer damn good and still touches. I took the box out and beat down a few places where the corners were that might have been touching to try and get it in further but its still touching. Dont order subthump, they blow. Anyone know how i can get it in there further? This is bullshit!

Mine fit fine and had no issues getting them to fit. T-Top clearance is not an issues. Just because you are not happy doesn't make Subthump bad. They have tons of satisfied customers. If you had the stock CD changer, cut the stud that the changer maounted to. Also, remove the stock carpeting from behind the box. It is not a very big piece.

Do you still have the carpeting behind it? I had to take mine out to get a better fit...

I never had a changer. The carpet is like 1/64". I need like half an inch. I replaced the plastic hand screw nut on the taillight with a regular nut and fkd with it for like an hour. The passenger ttop sits ON the rubber surround on the sub and depresses it about a 1/4". If i fired the sub once it would be completely shot. The box just will not go in any further, its fkd up.

Im pretty sure you need to remove the carpent stuff from behind it,my JL stealth box didnt fit with it in there ,but a perfect fit without it,just try it ,it will most likely fit perfect :chug:

I will take it out tmrw and see if it makes a difference but i dont think it will be enough clearance. I guess its possible tho. :bored:

I have a similar issue with mine as well. By the time all is said and done, the sub easily protrudes a good 1" (at rest) from the edge of the box.

I rarely if ever take the ttops off, so its a non issue for me.

And when I do take it off, I can lay one ttop in the back seat if need be.

Well the point of a stealth box in these cars is to be able to keep your ttop space. If i didnt care about having my ttop storage i would have built a box in that space and put 2 speakers with way more airspace.

There's tons of people who are satisfied to say sumbthump is bad.

Have you called Steve and asked told him the issues your having?

I'm sure he will tell you what you need to do to fix the problem.

I thought the same thing about the box. But once I took the piece of carpet out and TRASHED it and you also have to take the plastic off sit it on there and then place the plastic piece back on. It will fit flush giving you all the clearance for T-tops. I never had issues getting a hold of Steve when I bought it last year in April. It works great. I need a new sub cause I blew mine jamming out but its great.

Medic,

What plastic are you talking about? The ttop holder plastic? And which carpet, the one covering the cubby hole?

I think it would be fair to say some subs stick out further than others..

Are you talking about the speaker sticking out of the box because the magnet is too big? There's carpet in the hole covering up the side mark right. It's not attached to anything it just pulls out. The plastic ( I think its called the sail panel) that has the speaker grill on it for the 4in speaker with three snaps and also holds the flap covering the t-top pocket. Take that off too for now. Place the box in there with all the space you have now to play and it should fit in there, all the way back in the pocket. When you go to replace the cover back on it should fit inside the lip flush. The piece of carpet does not go back in. Hope this helps.

mine fits well even with the carpet in. I just had to finess (punch) the box into place. watch out for the metal piece on the bumper side of the car that holds the clip. Mine was caught on that for a while and I almost broke it off! fixed that and now my pass. t-top sits proll 1/8" away from my sub. the distance my sub moves in and out (there is some name for it) isnt that much so it never hits it. but prolly gets close.

Due to soundproofing back there I had a similar issue. Removed carpet, used the big effing hammer mod on the wheel well and cut down a couple of the bolts for the tail lights with a dremal. My subs surround is pretty large so I still stuff a small piece of rubber hose between the t-top and holder on the driver side to keep it well away from the surround. Here is a pic of my sub and how it sits.

for you guys running subs with big surrounds, it is possible to shift the ttops to the right of the car about an inch.

remove the ttop holders, on the pass. side one, dremel about an inch off the back part of the plastic that goes over the metal studs, so that when you put it back in, it will sit closer to the pass side of the car. You may also need to trim some plastic from the top of it. Reinstall it using some big washers before you put the bolts in since you are now missing the plastic lip the bolts normally get tight against.

On the driver side, make a 1" spacer out of wood or something that will slide over the 2 metal studs. reninstall your ttop holder

Ok I shouldnt even have to take out some carpet or grind bolts to get a better fit, but i definately should NOT have to do modifications to my car to fit my ttops for a box supposidly designed to fit in there with adequate clearance for them. An L7 box is designed for 1 model of speaker, the surround should have been accounted for in the design. MOST higher end subs now days have fat rubber surrounds. If i ever decided to demod and sell the car i dont want to have to search for a ttop holder becase i butchered mine up to fit a box. Ive read lots of account where peoples box doesnt fit properly, thats called design flaw. Thanks for the pointers everyone and good luck to those with similar issues. :judge:

grinding bolts may be an extreme case, but come on, you are honestly upset about having to remove a piece of carpet that is already separated, and has no purpose once the box is in place.

Once my 12" stealths are ready, I guess I will have to make it very clear that removing the stock carpet is required. Although, not much I can do to help keep a big basket / surround sub from hitting the ttop. I guess the sub could be counter sunk into the box a little, but then you run into depth issues.

I bought my stealth box about 2 years ago, placed an L7 in there too. About fitment, at first I was concerned since it didnt slide in, but with finesse or punches like imnotpluto said it goes right in. 00Pewter, this shit knocks, I'm surprised what a baby 10' could do in such a small cubby area. So by all means, get one. As far as service goes, Subthump is great. I ordered an L7 shape and was sent a circular 10' box...called and said whats up and shipped it back. They even told me how to get free shipping by claiming it was damaged on arrival.

11sec horse, I also have the same problem with T-top fitment. Rather than cutting up the holders like Mike is suggesting, I just sit my ttop a little atop the drivers side holder. If that makes any sense. LIke if you imagine looking at the Pass T-top hitting your sub when fully seated. Now what i do is take the left side, (the side touching the sub) and place it out of the holder and rest it on the holder but not inside the sliding area. The other side of that t-top will still be seated in the holder but of course it will not be able to lock down. If this is too confusing I can show pictures up if needed. As for whetehr this is safe, I'm going to say yes. I've been driving with my T-tops placed in the trunk like this and nothing terrible has happened. Hatch closes with no clearance issues, the t-tops dont jump around like kids in ball pit and most importantly, Doesn't Touch The Sub. Hope this helps you.

I figured if the ttop sat up like that it would move if you floored it or slammed on the brakes. Still the point is this box is designed to allow for proper ttop fitment, but as this thread has proven it doesnt lol. You shouldnt have to modify or move shit around. I dont care much about having to take out some carpet but anything else is lame. Im gonna fool around with it today and see what i can accomplish, ive been super busy the past few days. I gotta do a wax job too FUN FUN!! Anyway thanks for the pointers man..
