Ok I am going to be running two sets of components (that's 4 6.5in. speakers and 4 tweeters) along with a set of Pioneer coax 6x9s that I will be pretty hidden when I'm done with my interior project. I'm also going with a double din in dash DVD head unit (haven't decided which one yet) and want to upgrade all the speaker wire! What kind of amp should I run (2-channel, 4-channel)??? What gauge wiring for power, ground, ect.. What gauge and kind of speaker wire? And whatever other info you can inform me on! I'm very ignorant when it comes to car audio so please help me!

Are you planning on using the 6x9's effectively as "subs"?

Depending upon the answer to that I'd try to put them all on one amp. With no big subwoofers in the equation there's not much benefit to going with the hassle of 2 amps.

its gonna be hard to run 6 speakers off a 4 channel amp, unless you can bridge two of the channels and hook 4 speakers up to that bridged channel. then the other two channels would be for the other two speakers. like i was thinking of running my front two speakers on the front two channels, then the run the sail panel speakers and the hatch speakers on the rear two channels. i think you can bridge some amps like that, they would effectively be 3 channel amps though...

no the 6x9s would not be for subs. i got them for an x-mas present from mi madre and they are pretty good speakers and don't want to throw them out since they prolly weren't that cheap. What about running the front two speakers off the head unit and the back 4 off the amp? what about the tweeters? power wire and speaker wire? thanks for the help again!

Well, the thing is you don't really need the 6x9's. If you have four sets of components, then you have your highs and mids more than covered, and putting full range 6x9's in the back is just going to pull your soundstage back and sound a messed up.

About the only thing the 6x9's would be good for, if you are dead set on using them and can get them into proper ported boxes is a little extra bass. But this is a terribly inefficient way to get extra bass and really isn't worth the trouble at all.

But, if you are dead set on using them, I would get a 5 or 6 channel amp and drive the 6x9's, using a low pass filter. You'll pick up some extra bass this way, and your amp would be flexible enough to grow with you should you ever want to use a proper sub.

Alpine, JBL, and Infinity make some of the least expensive 5 & 6 channel amps. Something like this:

5 Channel (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8074662505&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT[/url)

Could drive your whole setup. For this specific setup you'd be better off with a 6 Channel (http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLGTO7556II) , but you get the point. If you did get a 6 channel you could eventually hook it up to a proper DVC sub, still.

not dead set on using them, just trying not to hurt moms feelings lol. she loves to drive the car alot (when I'm in town and home, and I don't know why she's got a C5!!!)! maybe I'll just keep them in there disconnected :chug: thanks for all the helP! I'll most likely just got with a 4 channel then. Don't have a whole lot of money to spend on something like a 6 channel amp (i've got a budget set for my interior project). A sub is planned just gonna wait until i get the basics out of the way to see how much I have left!
