I was driving on the highway and a C5 Z06 wanted to race. At the end I was pushing slightly past 5,500rpm. The guages bounce a lot at that speed so I don't know exactly how fast or what rpm it was. But I'm not sure I have a limiter in the car. What would the max rpm you can take a stock 305 TPI too.

they will rev pretty high but your max power will probably be around 5,000 or so,i can't remember exactly,so i would not rev over 5500-5600.

Unless you have a rev limiter (MSD 6AL - I've included a pic) in that car, no you wouldn't have a limiter in the car....

I googled it, but can't find anything.....I will agree w/ slow trap in what he said though....

Its a 86. Stock distributor and coil. Yea I can tell the power srops off pretty severe but with a light car its not that bad. The worst part is the gearing. Its totally mis matched for that engine. 5 speed. First gear is useless it will shatter if i use it on full throttle. So I end up with a 4 speed that maxes out at about 125-130.

Stock distributor and coil.

If you want, I can give you an ebay (power)seller's username. I bought a billet distributor w/ a 50k volt coil, bronze terminals (the seller, who really a parts store claims it's a 65k volt coil) for under 90$ shipped (and it's all brand new!!!)

Will that new ignition make any diffence in power or just give me a revlimiter.

As far as that distributor, it won't "give" you a rev limiter (you'd have to buy a MSD 6AL (or the like)) but it'll give you a lil more firepower - wouldn't really need it unless you started moddin other parts (for you application, the stock hei should be fine)

I used to have a 035 TPI in my 91 Camaro and a 5 speed same as yours. If you have a stock cam and the red line is at 5 then dont go bast 5,500...maybe even before it, cus after that its been my experience that your not making power, just over reving. But a stock 350 TPI cam will give you another 500 on the red, which was an option (G92 I believe). Other than that just stick to bolt ons, and if you really want a rev limiter, which i dont think you need unless your not that good at controlling stick, then get that MSD above, its good shit for like $350 or so.

6000rpm is probalby max but stock TPI's are done for by 4500rpm in 305's 4200 in L98's

Mine would valve float at 5500RPM so that's where I shifted it. 150hp NX kit mixed with valvefloat will melt a couple plugs here and there.:)
